Land yet to be conquered but Joshua is now old

Joshua 13-1-end–This chapter was opened with the information about the status of the health of Joshua, and it reads “Now Joshua was old and stricken in years, and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.” The chapter continues to list all other lands that God had ordained to be theirs but are yet to be conquered. These are the countries west of Jordan, since the land east of Jordan were conquered by Moses and had already been given to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and half tribe of Manasseh. The LORD now gave instructions for the land that have been and those that are yet to be conquered to be divided by lot among the remaining nine and half tribes of the children of Israel with the exception of the Levites because they are the Lord’s inheritance. Since Joshua is now old and cannot fight anymore, each tribe should enter into the land given to them and fight to take possession of the land. The LORD promised to be with them, but we will see as we read on if any tribe took up the challenge and fight like Joshua did

What I could learn from the episode of these children of God (Israel) possessing their God-given inheritance is that all of us are given some inheritance by God but not many of us are able to possess it. The blessings are sure because they are from the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the Almighty God. The first occupants of these lands were given the opportunity to enjoy it but they defiled the lands by their idolatrous worship of gods created by the devil. They did so many abominable things that made God take the land away from them and gave them to the children of Israel. But the children of Israel had to fight to take possession of the land.  I discover in my little experience in life that what you don’t work for, you don’t value as much. God always wants us to know that though all these blessings are there for us, but we must search and work for it. Nothing comes easy , there is always a price to pay.  Apart from the earthly inheritance, even our walk with God goes with sacrifice. The Bible says you must give up yourself (deny yourself), take up your cross and follow Him. Our Lord Jesus took up His cross to fight the enemy (devil) for us so as to take the key from him. Let us read Revelation 12: 1-12;

 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.

And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they [a]did not prevail, nor was a place found for [b]them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

Jesus fought with His blood, and we can only overcome Satan by the blood of Jesus. That is why our Lord Jesus told us that it is only through Him that we can be saved. He said the world hated Him, so they will hate us. Those who are working for the devil are all over the world. So we should not be surprised that we are witnessing wars, killings, destruction and the like because that is the agenda of the devil (John 10:10). Only Jesus can bring PEACE. Before His final return to reign on earth, we the children of God have to fight the devil who is after us in all angles-our homes, our marriages, our children, our ministries, our jobs and our nations. We must fight by not looking at all that he is doing, but by looking unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our Faith, and committing everything to Him, and His Holy Spirit who will teach us what to do and how to do it. When we do this we will be able not to murmur or complain while we carry our own cross, so that we can inherit that eternal life which is our heavenly inheritance in Jesus’ Name, Amen!!!
