Joshua 10:1-14- In this chapter we were told about the gathering of the kings of other cities, five of them against Gibeonites because of their alliance with the children of Israel. The Gibeonites called Joshua for help and the LORD assured Joshua that He would be with him and that he should not fear them that He had delivered them into his hand., and no man shall be able to stand before him.. So Joshua came upon them suddenly, having traveled all night from Gilgal. The LORD routed them before Israel, killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon. As they fled before Israel, the LORD cast down large hailstones from heaven on them. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.
We were told that Joshua spoke to the LORD in that day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies.. The Bible says, there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the LORD heeded the voice of a man, for the LORD fought for Israel.(v.14).
Though the battle continues to other cities but it is worth mentioning here how God responded to Joshua when he asked the sun and the moon to stop, and they stopped. Joshua needed to finish the assignment God gave to him and there was no way he could continue to kill in the dark. Joshua was in the LORD’s will, and he was moved to speak with faith. The Bible says if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we will command the mountain to move to the sea, and it will move. Isaiah 44:26 says “God confirms the word of His servant and performs the counsel of His messengers” We are His servants if we do His will. All that we read many times are written for us to know that we too could be used to perform miracles, signs and wonders. Not seeing many of these miracles these days confirms our spiritual state. Many of us do not have that small faith that could move anything. Or many of us do not even believe. If we doubt, according to the book of James, we cannot receive anything from God.
Today I am imploring us to read these scriptures with faith that the God that used Moses, and Joshua and all others we will still encounter, is the same God that we are serving. He is ready to do wonders through us if we can make ourselves available. The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24). He has control over everything He created. They were all created for His pleasure. Therefore we need to seek this God and know Him more intimately. I want Him to use you and me to showcase Himself in our lives. He did it through Moses, and He is doing it too through Joshua. We will read more in this chapter tomorrow. May the LORD continue to increase our faith in Him in Jesus Name, Amen!
