Joshua 1:8-This verse is the most quoted of Joshua 1 because it contains the advise from the LORD that could transform our lives if we can do exactly what it says. It reads, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Right from their meeting with God of Israel on Mount Sinai, God had been talking to them from the Ten Commandments, and to all that was penned down as instructions from the LORD from Exodus to Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, including Genesis. The LORD says if Joshua wanted to fulfill the mission God gave to him, that is, leading the children of Israel to their promised land, then the book that God wrote through Moses must not depart from his mouth. The Words have been written to guide him in the way he would go. Every thing that would be necessary for him to know is in the book, but he has to read it, and meditate on it.24/7. I am sure Joshua must have made this book his companion, his concordance, and anytime he needed direction, he would spend more time on reflecting on the instructions given to the children of Israel through Moses, in the process more light would shine on his path. We could see how successful Joshua was that he too warned the children of Israel before his death that they should not deviate from the way of the LORD otherwise they would suffer for it. He divided the land as God directed him as we would see in later chapters of his book.

The same advise is given to us too if we ever want to run the race and finish strong. There is only one way to get to the finished line without loosing our salvation, and that is, making the book of the law our priority. The book is a hidden treasure of the wisdom of God.  Usually things of high value are hidden or kept in a secured place. Some people hide their earthly treasures in the bank, things like Gold or Silver, so that they will not be stolen . The Bible says in Proverbs 8:10-11 “Receive my instruction, and not silver; And knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” Also verse 18 says “Riches and honor are with me, Yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; And my revenue than choice silver.”

Therefore we need to search deep into the word of God to find wisdom that will sustain us through our journey in life. Since our time on this earth is limited, I think it is worth our giving whatever it takes to find the hidden treasure in the word of God. I want to prosper and have good success as Joshua 1:8 says, therefore the only way to it is to meditate on the word of God. I have decided to do that and I would advise you to join me so that we can both find the hidden treasure and the secret riches that would be revealed to us when we spend meaningful time in the presence of God. I will dwell more on this tomorrow as we will see the parables of Jesus concerning these hidden treasures. May the LORD open us to our treasures as we dwell on HIs Word in Jesus Name. Amen!!!
