Deuteronomy 27:1-end- In this chapter, Moses commanded them to set up large stones, whitewash them with lime, and write all the laws on them and set them up for remembrance to observe to do them, when they cross the Jordan river. There are two mountains mentioned here, one is Mount Gerizim and the other is Mount Ebal. On Mount Gerizim, six tribes will stand to bless the people, while on Mount Ebal, the other six tribes will stand there to curse. What follows this instruction was the charge given to the Levites to proclaim the laws to the children of Israel by saying: “Cursed is the one who makes a carved or molded image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of craftsman, and sets it up in secret.” And all the people shall answer and say, “Amen”. The curses continue with Amen as the response . The last verse says “Cursed is the one who does not confirm all the words of this law by observing them.” And all the people shall say, “Amen!”
Brothers and sisters, from this chapter I now understand what Galatians 3:10-12 says “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse, for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” If you read through this scripture everything is cursed if you don’t abide by it. All the commandments have to be obeyed for not to receive any curse. No wonder the children of Israel were operating under the curse of disobedience to any of the commandments. They could not obey ALL, and therefore the curse continued. Therefore we can say that the law brings a curse? But why? What was the purpose of the law then? The Bible says “It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed (Jesus Christ) should come to whom the promise was made.” (Gal 3:19)
We also are born into the same curse, that is why we have the natural tendency to sin. But thank God for our Lord Jesus Christ who came to redeem us from the curse of the law. Galatians 3:13 says “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through Faith. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
I have written all these from Galatians to connect us to the laws that were made a curse for everyone in the Old Testament for us to know that it is impossible to fulfill all that the law requires from us. Therefore it is through our Lord Jesus Christ that the whole world was united to be saved. Therefore we are all sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus. We should be grateful to God for uniting us all together in Him, no Jews, Gentiles slaves or free, we are all one in Him. I hope you have given your life to Christ, because it is in Him that we all come together., so that we can reign with Him eternally. Amen. God bless you as you continue to uphold the statutes and ordinances of God in Christ Jesus, Amen.
