Deuteronomy 22:1-12-This chapter deals with how to be our brother’s keeper and went on to talk about sexual purity. I have extracted the following verses for us to consider for today and we will go through the other section tomorrow.

5“A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are [c]an abomination to the Lord your God

9. You shall not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed,

10. You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together

11. You shall not wear a garment of different sorts, such as wool and linen mixed together.

12. You shall make tassels on the four corners of the clothing with which you cover yourself.

The verse 5 says woman should not wear anything that pertains to a man. This is so important to me that I wish I were alive during the time of Jesus to help me clarify this because men do not really have any problem in this area as much as women do. It is so uncommon to see a man in a woman’s dress. One might need to investigate deeply what led to this , but whatever the outcome, if the Bible says it is an abomination, so it is. How to reconcile this issue is a problem for me myself because I too wear pants. Though I have the conviction within me that I should obey what the Bible says, but what I don’t understand is that if wearing it will debar me from entering heaven. Is it part of my entry ticket? Since I cannot answer this question categorically, I will arrest my case here waiting for my God to throw more light to it. Whatever He says, I will revisit this case and make it known to you.

When I looked at the other three, I do not know if they still practice any of these today. One should not wear garment of different sorts. I do not know whether the garments we buy are mixed together (wool and linen). I also do not know if farmers plow their ground with ox and donkey or if they do not sow different seeds on their ground as the law says. Since we cannot isolate one part of the Word of God from the other, I would believe that the entire command was applicable to the children of Israel at that time and things might have changed because of transition from one generation to another. Also I realize that God changes his mind on some issues brought before Him at certain times. If you can recollect  the issue of the children of Zelophehad (Numbers 27) who were denied their father’s inheritance because they were girls. When the matter was brought before Moses, he went to meet the LORD for clarification, and the LORD told Moses that their request was legitimate, and the law was amended henceforth to take care of other issues.

We need to look at the word of God as God’s way of making sure that we do not do anything that can defile us or the inheritance which He has given to us. The law has helped in many ways to know how to behave in a society or community he has placed us exercising love and mercy among ourselves. We need boundaries, because they are guards to help us in our journey of life. May the LORD continue to open our eyes of understanding to His word so that we will be able to please Him in all our ways in Jesus Name, Amen. Remain blessed!!!
