Deuteronomy 21: 1-end-This chapter is another eye opener to some things that we take for granted and do not know that they are the cause of the problems we face today. The reason is because many of these are mentioned in this chapter and the way to take the guilt away from them without having a negative effect on them. One of them is unsolved murder. We have many murder cases that they could not solve and thereby could not apportion punishment to anyone. In this chapter the Lord told the priests to gather all the elders within the vicinity of the slain person and take them to a place (valley) where they will wash their hands on the heifer (never yoked or used) and declare their innocence so that the guilt could be taken from them. They are required to say, “LORD provide atonement for Your people whom you have redeemed, and do not lay the innocent blood to the charge of your people Israel.” Then atonement shall be provided on their behalf.
Now imagine the thousands of unsolved murder cases and their guilt on the society or even the nation as a whole in our day. The LORD that says “do not kill” always has punishment for whoever does because He allows the blood of the murderer to atone for the shed blood of the slain. Otherwise the land is under a curse because of the blood of the slain. Also towards the end of this chapter, the LORD also addressed inheritance of the first born, and the way to handle female captives when they win a war. The other section talks about the stoning to death of any rebellious son by bringing such child to the elders, who shall bring him out to the city gate where the men of the city shall stone him to death in order to put away evil from among them. The last but not the least is “that if a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but must be buried that day so that you do not defile the land that God is giving you as an inheritance, for he who is hanged is accursed of God.”
This last verse explains the scripture in Galatians 3:13 that reads “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. So we can understand from this that the whole world is under a curse because we do not obey all things which are written in the book of the law. So Jesus came to take the curse away from us, first by becoming the curse, and then His blood provides the atonement for our sins. He hanged on the tree for us which means He was accursed by God. Only those that accept the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus can have his sins be atoned or removed because without the shedding of the blood, there is no remission of sin.
We should thank our God for the way of salvation which He provided for the entire human race. We should develop the passion for evangelism because of so many people that do not realize there is no other way after death to be forgiven of any sin. Those of us who have given our lives to Christ should continue to ask for God’s empowerment so that we don’t continue in sin. God has done it all. He has provided a way of escape for us all. It is left for us to choose life by holding on to Jesus all to the end. May the LORD keep us to the end in Jesus Name, Amen. Be blessed!!!
