Deuteronomy 16:1-end-This chapter reviewed the previous feasts which the children of Israel were mandated to carry out at their specific times.  The first one is Passover which they must carry out in remembrance of their deliverance from slavery from the hand of Pharaoh. The feasts of weeks and tabernacles were also reviewed in this chapter. Verse 16 says “Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which He shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread (Passover), and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles; and they shall not appear before the LORD empty. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which He hath given thee. The last section of this chapter addresses the appointment of Judges and officers that are just. He says in verse 19 “Thou shalt not wrest judgment, thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift, for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.”

Our God desires that we remember some landmarks in our journey of life because each of those landmarks, speaks about the wonderful work of God in our lives. It should be brought to remembrance all the time to show our appreciation to the Almighty God, and this also makes our children to build their trust in the Almighty God. So three times in a year the children of Israel must bring their males before the LORD for this celebration, and must never appear empty handed. God gave us all, and therefore we must honor Him out of what He has given to us. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” God is a GIVER and therefore He teaches us how to give too. Whatever we bring to Him are for the workers in His vineyard. In the Scriptures, it says, “Give, and it shall be given back to you, pressed down, and shaken together, shall men give unto your bosom.”  So when we give to God, God blesses us in return.

The last part talks about choosing a Judge that is just and does not respect any person but will do his work fearlessly. That is what we need in our society of today. The society is so corrupt that we do not know if any one has the fear of God to administer his work righteously. People take bribe and we are told that gifts/bribes blind the eyes of the wise. No wonder there is no more truth in the land, because money talks. So many people have fallen victim of wrong judgment, and God hates their lying tongue. We can see how rotten our society has become with all these practices and many more because it is not limited only to our judicial system, it is in every facet of our society. The problem is world wide and therefore it is only God who can cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let us continue to call on God to bring His kingdom down among men. Individually let us examine ourselves and make efforts to do what is right. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can change our world, a step at a time in the right direction. I pray that the Almighty God will fill us up with Himself so that we can please Him in all that we do in Jesus Name, Amen. Be blessed!!!
