Deuteronomy 15:1-23. In this chapter we can see the goodness of God on all people. He told the children of Israel to release those who are indebted to them at the end of every seven years, that is they should forgive them of their debt. Slaves that are bought should also be released (not -empty handed) but providing him with enough substance to make him sufficient on his own. If such servant refused to go because of his love for him, then they shall put a mark upon him and would now be his servant forever. Another thing that He commanded them to do is to be generous to the poor among them, and they should do it cheerfully so that the LORD can bless the works of their hands,”for the poor shall never cease out of the land, therefore I command you saying, You shall open your hand wide unto your brother, to the poor, and to the needy in the land..” (v.11).

The first male of their flock is always for the Lord and they should not be used to do any work. They should be offered to the LORD. After the normal practice, they should be eaten before the LORD their God year after year. But if the first male has any blemish, they should not sacrifice it to the LORD but can still eat it within their gates but the blood must be poured upon the ground as water.

The commandment of God to the poor, or the needy is very common among us today but the forgiveness of debt after every seven years is uncommon in our society. I do not know if it is being practiced today among the children of Israel, but the rich people who are the controller of money would not want to deprive themselves of  their money. It is true that God’s ways are not our ways Our God is a merciful God and very compassionate God. His desire is for all of us to be blessed if we can obey His statutes and ordinances. The blessing for individuals is supposed to be shared with the needy, the poor, the widow, the orphan. If we are conscious of the fact that what we have is from the LORD, then it will be easy for us to open our hand wide to give to those who are in need generously and also to forgive debts especially long term debts. In America, many creditors are business people that are trading their money for profit, and most of the interests on the loan are taken from the first few years of the life of the loan. With all that is operating all over the world, the problem we have is the ;love of money which is the root of all evil It is only God who can deliver us from the epidemic of money usury among us..

If you are a rich man or woman and you are reading this write up today, my advice to you is to let your money change hands and benefit people around you. As you do these, the LORD will bless you more and more in Jesus Name. God will perfect everything that concerns you in Jesus Name, Amen. Shalom!
