Deuteronomy 10:1-end- This chapter is a continuation of the charge from Moses to “remember” that their God is the God of the whole earth who chose to love their fathers and their descendants above all others on earth. “ And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?” (12-13). God is a Holy God. He loves His people but hates their sin. He is a just God who cannot but punish us for our sins. He also reminded them there were seventy of them that came to Egypt and now the LORD had multiplied them into multitude. All these exhortation from Moses was to make them think of the goodness and mercy of God upon their lives.
We too can relate to this if we can think of His love, goodness and mercy upon the whole world. We are not the ones responsible for the sun to shine, or the rain to fall, or the air that circulates throughout the earth for us to breathe and live. Think of the process of “nature” that resulted in making food available to us. Do we just command it and it comes to pass? Of course not! It is all due to His goodness and mercy upon us all. Think of the wisdom that He gave to human race to transform their world. He says in the Bible that in the last days “knowledge shall increase.” We can see the increase in all areas of life that had made the world a global village and the word of God could be preached for the whole world to hear at the same time. If we can see how limited we are even with all our technological advancement, we should have sought God more in appreciation of what He had done and for us to have more knowledge of Him. The unfortunate part of this human race advancement in knowledge of making life more comfortable, we lack understanding in the things of the spirit. People die everyday, where do they go? What would be my own end? How do I know this? The God of the universe who rules and reigns over all has given us a blueprint, the Bible, that represent “the basic instruction before leaving earth”. This is the manual that we need to read, digest, learn from the mistakes of earlier people, and follow to the end.
I would also end this by repeating the verse that says, “What does the LORD require of us, children of God, but to fear the Lord our God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul, To keep the commandments of the Lord, and His statutes, for our good? My prayer is that the LORD will continue to make Himself REAL to us, so that we can seek Him, thirst for Him, love Him, read His Word daily so that we can grow in the knowledge of Him all the days of our lives in Jesus Name, Amen!! Shalom!
