Deuteronomy 9:1-end-In this chapter Moses reiterated the point that could help them to have a good life in the land they were going to possess. The point is “Do not forget all that God of your fathers had done for you.” He told them it was not their righteousness that made them a chosen people, it was only because of the oath or covenant that He had with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He reminded them that they as a people rebelled against the LORD right from the time they left Egypt till they got to the land. It was the wickedness of the original people that reached heavens and thus judgment was passed on them. Therefore they should be careful in the way they relate to God.
This chapter brings to my memory the verse in the book of Ecclesiastes 9:11 that says “ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.” Simply put, you cannot boast of any achievement on your part, it is God that made it possible. Moses says, the nations they are taken over from, are greater and mightier than them, their cities are great and fortified up to heaven, a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anakim, therefore they should understand that it is the Lord their God who goes over before them as a consuming fire, and brings them down for them to possess the land. The remaining verses narrated all their rebellious acts step by step from the time they left Egypt.
It is good to be reminded of all our mistakes so as not to fall into them again and also to appreciate the mercies of God upon our lives. Personally. when I think of all the sins I had committed, I am more appreciative of God’s goodness upon my life because I could have died in the process and ended up in Hell fire, but the LORD spared my life and gave me another chance to make it right.
What about you? Why don’t you spend this period to think of all your weaknesses or sins that could have caused your eternal separation from God, and thank God for still keeping you alive, forgiving you those sins and helping you to make a right turn to Him. Let us appreciate God every day for all our achievements, our good health, our jobs, and our salvation. We owe it all to Him. His Glory He will not share with anyone. So brothers and sisters, I will end this write up by quoting Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 that says: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Remain Blessed!!!
