Numbers 33,1-end– The LORD commanded Moses to record the stages of the journey of the children of Israel from Egypt until the point where they were. which was the plains of Moab. Thus the chapter deals mainly with the stages of their journey from one point to the other with their landmarks. The last few verses now gives instruction about what to do when they cross Jordan into Canaan. They were supposed to drive all the inhabitants out of the land. He says “Destroy all their carved images, and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places. Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess. Distribute the land by lot, according to your clans. But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you troubles in the land where you will live. And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them>” (52-56).
That was exactly what happened , they grew weary and left many inhabitants there without destroying them, and this was what messed them up all through their sojourn on the land that the LORD gave to them. The LORD knows the end from the beginning, He gave the warning so that the inhabitants will not lure them into sin like it happened in Shittim, in the land of Moab. Obeying God is the key to living a perfect and hitch free life. As we continue to read, we will discover the troubles they faced from time to time because of these people that dwelt among them.
The trouble we face today stemmed from the consequences of the disobedience of human race from the garden of Eden to this moment. We read history, we hear of stories, and we read the Bible, and yet we don’t take it to heart to learn from the mistakes of those who have failed God and make our own generation a better one. We continue to tread on the path of destruction and we are now awaiting the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ who is our only hope.of bringing PEACE into the earth. Every generation had failed God, that’s why no human being can be trusted. But in the midst of it all, God is still calling us to Himself to turn from our evil ways so that we can dwell with Him in His kingdom for ever (John 14:1-3) Please let us endeavor, to reverence God, obey all His commandments as Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing whether it is good or evil.” I pray that God in His infinite mercies will empower us to keep pressing forward until we reach the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Amen. Shalom!!!
