Numbers 26: 1-end: “And it came to pass, after the plague, that the Lord spoke to Moses and Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying: 2 “Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel from twenty years old and above, by their fathers’ houses, all who are able to go to war in Israel.” 3 So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho, saying: 4 “Take a census of the people from twenty years old and above, just as the Lord commanded Moses and the children of Israel who came out of the land of Egypt.”
This is the second census of all tribes and when it was all done verse 51 reads “These are those who were numbered of the children of Israel: six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.” Then the last three verses reads “63 These are those who were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho. 64 But among these there was not a man of those who were numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they numbered the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Sinai. 65 For the Lord had said of them, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” So there was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
Wonderful! The words of God have been proven again that whatever He says He would do,that He will do. The number of the children of Israel had come up to the same number that started the journey (the first census), but these are new ones, new generation, children and grandchildren of the ones that died in the wilderness as a result of their sin. This is the wonder of God. They all died except Caleb and Joshua who did not go along with the other ten that brought evil report. The LORD spared their lives and they will be the ones to inherit the land of promise. There is a reward for those who do God’s will and do not deviate from His ordinances and precepts. This is a practical example of what awaits those of us who take the word of God seriously. Jesus says He is coming again and His reward is with Him.(Rev 22:12). Matthew 25:32-46 tells of the same separation at the end of the age when evil ones will be cast away into everlasting punishment (Hell) and the righteous ones into life eternal (Heaven). This God of Israel is the same God and we need to know that He does not change. I pray that we will be empowered daily until our path shall be like a shinning light that shines more and more unto the perfect day Amen Shalom!
