Numbers 23:1-12–Now we see in this chapter how seven altars were prepared, and upon each altar, a bullock and a ram were sacrificed, and Balaam told Balak to stand by the burnt offerings while he stepped aside to hear what the LORD would say. The LORD met him there and spoke to him. He told him to return to Balak and he would speak to him there. Verse 6-10 says “And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice ,he and all the princes of Moab. And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying , Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied? For from the top of the rocks, and from the hills I behold him, lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. Who can count the dust of Jacob,, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous , and let my last end be like his!”
The word of the LORD through Balaam is so comforting and encouraging that these people are His and nothing can harm them. They are special people just like Moses said in Deuteronomy and Peter also said the same thing in 1 Peter 2:9 which says “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,” They are chosen to show forth the glory of the LORD on this earth. If they had understood this from the beginning, and appreciated Him for this by obeying Him, and trusting Him completely, they would not have suffered through their journey with thousands of them wasted away in the wilderness. It is really unfortunate that only a few of them understood what it meant to know and serve the God that brought them out of slavery and promised to take them to their land of promise. They were supposed to be a shining light (beacon) for the world to see God through them. That was the purpose of God choosing them as a blessed nation.
The problem with the children of Israel not recognizing how treasured and valuable they are in the Hand of God is also the problem of the entire human race up till today. It is the same pattern that we see then and now. Many of us who have given our lives to Christ are still not living for Him. We live in disobedience or denial of the Faith we claim to have. Many of us read the scriptures but we don’t appropriate it or apply it or do what it says. We take the judgment of God against sinners with a pinch of salt. Those that are knowledgeable in the word only have head knowledge. They quote scriptures but do not have faith in what they say. If you are reading these stories with me, I would want to advise you that the stories were written for our learning so that we would not fall into the same trap these people fell into.(Romans 15:4). The love of God had been shown to the whole world by allowing His Son (Jesus Christ) to be given to us, to take away our sins through His death on the cross. The beautiful part of the love story is that our God is so merciful that it does not matter what we have done, once we ask for pardon, turn from our wicked ways and return to Him, we will experience the same love that we should have felt if we did not sin. He forgives your sins and allows you to start over again. I am a living witness of this mercy of God. He forgave me all my sins and pours Himself unto me. I am strengthened by His Spirit daily and I am now doing all things through Him. You too can do the same. Call upon Him today and surrender your totality to Him, and you will never remain the same again. He is waiting for you to make that decision today. It is well with you. Shalom!!!
