Numbers 22:1-8–This chapter opens with ‘And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho,” this shows that they have moved forward close to another city known as Moab. In the series of actions that the king of Moab set out to make sure they prevailed over the children of Israel, you will see so many interesting episodes that will reinforce your confidence in the God of Israel or open you up to new areas on which you can build your trust in Him. The first part is the revelations of the fear that gripped the people of Moab because they have heard what they did to the Amorites. The children of Israel did not know who they are. The God of the universe had chosen them as His own, walking through this journey with them, meeting them at the point of their needs, and fighting all their battles for them. Did they recognize this as much as the Gentiles nations did? The Gentiles nations fear this God of Israel. The disaster that befell the children of Israel on this journey that claimed thousands of lives and rendered them as wanderers for 40 years would not have happened if they have had the same fear and reverence for their God.
Do you fear this same God? We need to fear and reverence Him because He is the God of the whole world and He can kill, and He can make alive. The plan that he has for the human race is that we will know Him as God who reigns in the affairs of men. We too should not make the same blunder that the children of Israel made by being rebellious and not following His commandments. Isaiah 53:6 says “All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way” Our fallen nature had made us so sinful, that we need a Savior. This is why our Lord Jesus Christ came as the Savior of the world. Isaiah 53;6 continues to say that “the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.,” The generation we are in is the reconciliation of the whole world to God through the dispensation of Grace brought by our Lord Jesus Christ. So there are no Jews or Gentiles, but one body, one fold, and one LORD, Amen. The Church is the body of Christ, where the Spirit of Christ dwells. Now that we know Him, and we have given our lives to Him, do we obey Him, do we reverence Him, do we run away from sin? Only those who fear Him will not want His wrath. You have witnessed in the previous readings how He poured His wrath on the children of Israel because of their sins. Let all of us turn from our evil ways and do what is right and we will enjoy all His provisions and protections in all our various endeavors in Jesus’ name, Amen. Shalom!!!
