Numbers 14-11-12 says “And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
We see here the LORD changing His mind not to continue to lead them to the promised land. He said He will smite them with pestilence and disinherit them. The children of Israel have provoked the LORD to the point that He promised to break His covenant with them. The LORD had demonstrated His love upon these people in such a way that they should not have reacted the way they did. This is the second time that the LORD told Moses He would continue with him (Moses) as the people to bring to the promised land. The first time was when Moses was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights and before he came back, they had created another god for themselves, the golden calf. Moses had to plead with the LORD for forgiveness and reminded Him of what the Egyptians would say when they hear of it. He relented at that time, many people died because of this. Now these leaders have forgotten that every of their actions that are not pleasing unto the LORD have ended in disaster. Ten out of twelve men could not think right. They could not reason with the other two so as not to incite the whole congregation with their evil report.
It is unfortunate that what is going on now in the whole world is likened to the reaction of God to the children of Israel. Though God is God of mercy and compassion, but He is God that demands complete loyalty from His creations. If people remember that God is in charge of the whole world, and that they are only given opportunity to live here temporarily, may be they would behave differently. Many people behave as if they have power over their lives, and therefore they live a care free life. They don’t consider the day when they will cease to be no more. Imagine the pestilence (corona virus pandemic) that have befallen the whole world. No one has been able to arrest this angel of death, and yet people are not thinking of what could be done to appease the God of the whole universe. Where are the leaders of the gospel? Why don’t they talk to the whole world in one voice that we have all sinned and therefore we need to plead for mercy. What we are hearing is meeting that will usher in peace with leaders of different religions that do not recognize the God of the Bible as God. Can we be saved through this medium (meeting) when Jesus Christ is the only way to God? Those who know the truth are not confident enough to approach God like Moses did and plead for mercy. Anyway, we know that God has been provoked and the end of the world is very near, so we are seeing signs of the beginning of the end. Daniel 11:32 b says “but the people that know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”
Do you know your God? If you do, this is the time to let your faith in Him rises to a level that nothing else will matter to you except your relationship with Him. Draw closer to this God, love Him, and bring more souls to Him. Do exploits for Him. May the LORD continue to teach us His Way as He had taught Moses in Jesus Name, Amen.
