Number 13:1-33- This is an interesting chapter that involves twelve spies sent to the land of Cannan to search the land and bring reports according to the commandments of God. Ten brought evil reports because they saw giants there and they did not remember that the battle was not theirs but the LORD’s, and so they were not ready to go into the land to fight. According to them, they were like grasshoppers compared to the inhabitants that looked like giants. With this mindset, they could not see themselves occupying the land as the LORD had promised them.
On the other hand, the two other spies which are Caleb and Joshua tried to convince them that they should rise up and move to occupy the land because the LORD will help them. Unfortunately, the evil reports from the majority did a lot of havoc, caused a lot of uproars, which angered God as we will see in chapter 14. Personally, I cannot bring myself to a full understanding of the reason why the ten spies quickly forgot the numerous miracles, signs, and wonders that the LORD performed in their midst from the time they were in Egypt to the point where they got to at this time. The entire journey was led by God Himself with a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night.. All their needs were met by God, manna from heaven, and water from the Rock. Yet they did not recognize that their God is still among them, He is still able to bring them to their promised land.
I will use the church of God today to represent the children of God that were being led to their promised land. Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our Faith, He came to purchase us with His blood, and we are His and He keeps reminding us that all we have to do is to believe in Him. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us and to keep us comforted, He gave us His Holy Spirit to guide us, teach us and remind us of all that the Word says. Because we don’t see Him physically, many of us allow the spirit of unbelief to dominate our lives. The miracles in the bible have been seen over and over again in the generation we are in now. Many men and women of God have been used to perform miracles, signs, and wonders as evidence of the continuous work of the Holy Spirit among us. Why don’t we experience more of manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit among the believers? Why are we struggling with the sin of unbelief? Why are we overtaken by fear of the unknown every day, when the bible says “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world? Why do we allow things we can see (worldly things) to becloud our judgment, instead of walking by faith?
Children of God, we cannot continue to allow the sin of unbelief to make us lose our heavenly inheritance. We need to walk by faith and not by sight. We should understand by now that there is no excuse for doing wrong, every action has a reaction. If we want to please God and make heaven, we must have faith in Him. We must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrew 11:6). There is nothing that is absolutely impossible for Him. Let us trust Him with all our heart, mind and soul, and not lean on our own understanding, but in all our ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct our part (Proverbs 3:5-6). May the LORD bless you as you read and abide by His Words, Amen!!!
