Leviticus 27:1-33-The LORD spoke to Moses to tell the children of Israel how to redeem the vow which they will make to Him and the latter part of the chapter talks about the tithe that “all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S, it is holy unto the LORD.” (vs 30).
The last verse (34) says “these are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai,” I am only going to comment on the tithe since the other part that deals with vow is straight forward and well detailed. I know that we all belong to God and all that we have are from God. God required the children of Israel to bring the tithe of the land to the sanctuary because they belong to the LORD and they are holy unto the LORD. I am sure that the Children of Israel understood this since it was given directly to Moses, and Moses was there to guide them to do it accordingly. Today many of us do not know the holiness attached to our tithes. What we read in Malachi 3:10 is ” Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” Apart from the blessing attached to this, the dangerous part that I could perceive from Leviticus is that what is holy to the LORD at that time is holy to the LORD also today. When God declares something holy, it is sacred, consecrated to God only. Only God decides who touches it or uses it. If it is not used according to His laid out principles, it becomes a sin to whosoever handles it otherwise.
So we can see that many churches today have flouted the principles of God and mismanaged God’s money. Many do not find out how to properly dispense or distribute it. Now that I am addressing this situation, I too need to seek God’s guidance on how to use the money that belongs to God so that we don’t sin against God in handling this holy thing. Also, all of us should consider tithe as a commandment from God which needed to be given to honor God. When we don’t do this faithfully, it means we dishonor Him, Many that are not faithful have experienced the consequences in many ways. Malachi 3:11 says “And I will rebuke the devourers for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.” Therefore if one is not faithful in giving to God what belongs to Him, one can be facing many of these problems. I pray that the LORD will continue to guide us so that we can please Him in all our ways in Jesus’ Name, Amen. Shalom!
