THE HOLINESS OF THE OFFERINGS
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they do not profane My holy name by what they dedicate to Me: I am the Lord. Say to them: ‘Whoever of all your descendants throughout your generations, who goes near the holy things which the children of Israel dedicate to the Lord, while he has uncleanness upon him, that person shall be cut off from My presence: I am the Lord. No outsider shall eat the holy offering; one who dwells with the priest, or a hired servant, shall not eat the holy thing. But if the priest buys a person with his money, he may eat it; and one who is born in his house may eat his food. If the priest’s daughter is married to an outsider, she may not eat of the holy offerings. But if the priest’s daughter is a widow or divorced, and has no child, and has returned to her father’s house as in her youth, she may eat her father’s food; but no outsider shall eat it. Therefore you shall keep My commandments, and perform them: I am the Lord. You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel. I am the Lord who sanctifies you, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 22:1-3, 10-13, 31-33).
Leviticus 22 focuses on holy offerings and those who are eligible to eat them. The summary of all this is that our God demands His Honor. God is holy and everything about Him is holy and His offerings must be treated with the same respect. We cannot offer Him anything less. Unclean people cannot come near Him or eat any of the holy offerings. But thanks be to God that He makes it possible at a certain time to make unclean people clean. This is what the death of Jesus Christ did for us. The blood justifies and sanctifies us., thereby making us worthy to receive His holy communion. I do not know how each person perceives our God, but to me there is no word that can be used to describe His mightiness and holiness. The things he created speak volumes, and we that He created in His image are complex being. How we are wonderfully woven with all our internal organs working in mysterious ways and even the exterior part of our being all joined together are mind-boggling. Our God deserves all the honor and adoration that we can give to Him. Psalm 48:1-3 says, “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God, In His holy mountain. Beautiful in elevation,The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, The city of the great King. God is in her palaces; He is known as her refuge.” We should follow all His commandments, and honor all His offerings because they are Holy. The fact that He is a Great God, who can do all things should make us FEAR HIM. His loving nature and compassion and mercy brings us close to Him. Psalm 103 says “For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.” Therefore let us continue to remember that He owns us and we are the sheep of His pasture. I give Praise and Honor to your Holy Name because you are my God, and for ever you shall be my God, Amen.
