Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,  “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a woman has conceived, and borne a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days; as in the days of her customary impurity she shall be unclean.  And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.  She shall then continue in the blood of her purification thirty-three days. She shall not touch any hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary until the days of her purification are fulfilled. ‘But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her customary impurity, and she shall continue in the blood of her purification sixty-six days. ‘When the days of her purification are fulfilled, whether for a son or a daughter, she shall bring to the priest a lamb of the first year as a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove as a sin offering, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting.  Then he shall offer it before the Lord, and make atonement for her. And she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who has borne a male or a female. ‘And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’ ”(Leviticus 12:1-8)

Leviticus 11 deals with animals, birds and all creeping things in the sea and on the land that the children of Israel should count as abomination. They were so many, so I had to skip this section because the Creator knows what is clean and unclean, therefore we trust His judgment and the children of Israel took it as a general law from one generation to the other. I remember in the Acts of Apostles when the angel appeared to Cornelius the Roman Centurion to call Peter to come to his house to minister to him, Peter had a vision of most of all the unclean animals and the voice told him to rise up and eat, and he told the Lord that he has never eaten anything unclean in his life, But this was shown to him as an analogy of what was coming to him so that he would not refuse the invitation because Cornelius was not a Jew.

Leviticus 12 deals with the impurity of a woman after child birth. The fact that a woman goes through this period even before conception and is said to be in an unclean state explains why a woman after childbirth could also be classified as unclean because she is still going through her cycle. Generally, women do not enjoy all the pain and the dirtiness associated with this period. I will assume it is part of the curse upon Eve from chapter 3 of Genesis because of what she did. The good part of this is that God used the fertilization of the egg to bring out another being that will be their offspring.  God confirms the impurity of this state by making it into law for the women to stay away from the Temple during this period and also not to touch any holy things.  This was why the story of the woman with the issue of blood was a very pathetic case. This woman carried this problem for 12 years and there was no solution as she went from one physician to another until she met Jesus. Throughout these 12 years, she could not enter the Temple nor move near holy things because she was unclean. Isn’t it glorious that such problem could only be solved by Jesus, by touching the hem of His garment. The woman was not bold enough to ask for healing but the faith she had in Jesus made her whole.

My friend what would you say is the “issue of blood” in your situation today? Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever, and He is more than glad to solve your own problem if you can draw nearer to Him today and ask for help. Just like God requires the women after child birth to bring offering to Him after the stipulated number of days for her purification (33 days for a male child, and 66 days for a female child), so also Jesus requires us to come to Him for cleansing. He wants us to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God which is our reasonable service. If we can rededicate ourselves to Him, the issue in our lives will be a thing of the past and we will be walking in victory. May the Lord cleanse us from all our unrighteousness and make us whole in Jesus Name, Amen. Be Blessed!!!.
