WAVE AND HEAVE OFFERINGS

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,  “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offering to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offering.  His own hands shall bring the offerings made by fire to the Lord. The fat with the breast he shall bring, that the breast may be waved as a wave offering before the Lord.  And the priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aaron’s and his sons’.  Also the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a heave offering from the sacrifices of your peace offerings.  He among the sons of Aaron, who offers the blood of the peace offering and the fat, shall have the right thigh for his part.  For the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering I have taken from the children of Israel, from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons from the children of Israel by a statute forever.’ ”This is the consecrated portion for Aaron and his sons, from the offerings made by fire to the Lord, on the day when Moses presented them to minister to the Lord as priests. The Lord commanded this to be given to them by the children of Israel, on the day that He anointed them, by a statute forever throughout their generations. This is the law of the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering, the consecrations, and the sacrifice of the peace offering,  which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day when He commanded the children of Israel to offer their offerings to the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai.(Leviticus 7: 28-38).

From the scripture above we are made to understand the different ways to look at peace offering. In the peace offering we have wave offering and heave offering. The Lord commands the person offering the sacrifice to bring the offering by himself before the Lord, wave it before Him and then the priest will now burn the fat on the altar. The breast shall be Aaron’s and his son’s. The priest that offer it shall take the right thigh as a heave offering. While wave could be simply defined as a show to the Lord, the heave represents lifting or hauling a heavy thing with a great effort. This explains Matthew 11:28-30 where the Lord says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” The sacrifice is part of the process of allowing the heavy burden upon us to be lifted so that we can have peace of mind. Many of us are laden with financial burdens, stressful related jobs or family problems that are taking a toll on us. So once we recognize these mind-torturing problems, the offering that is needed is called “Peace-Offering” and that is when we cast all of them on Him who is able to take care of all the problems. In actual fact there is little we can do when it comes to many of these issues. But if we can trust God and allow Him to take perfect control of them, the peace that he promised in Philippians shall be ours. It says “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:6-7).

Thus it is realistic to think that the peace offering is meant that we will come to Him and offer everything that are bothering us and if we can do that with all our heart, soul and mind, then that peace from God will fill our soul and we will be singing and rejoicing in the Lord and waiting patiently for answers to our prayers. The Lord will speedily answer all our prayers in Jesus name, Amen. Be Blessed!!!
