THE PROMISE OF GOD’S’ PRESENCE

Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.” And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.  For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.” So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”  Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”  But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”  And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock.  So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.  Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” (Exodus33:12-23).

In this writeup, Moses wants us to know there is no journey that can be embarked upon without God going with you. Moses appealed to God for His presence because many problems had happened on the way. The journey from the land of Egypt started with the Angel of God accompanying them with a Pillar of Cloud by day and a Pillar of Fire by night., and they were  warning not to offend Him because God’s Name was in Him. But the children misbehaved so many times as if the Angel was not with them. They murmured, and complained of one problem or the other. To crown it up they now made a gold calf in the absence of Moses. Now God told Moses to tell them to continue their journey but without Him. Moses interceded on their behalf that if the children of Israel have found grace in His sight because they are His people, moving forward without Him is impossible. Then God agreed to go with them and Moses asked God to show him His glory.

In every of God’s dealing wit His people He shows His mercy and love by overlooking their shortcomings. He says He will be gracious to whom He will be gracious, and have compassion to whom He will have compassion.  God still extends His forgiveness to all mankind anytime we cry unto Him and ask for it.  This section shows the importance of intercession and also that God knows our weakness. We should not think that God can never forgive our sins. It does not mater what we have done He always ready to forgive and forget, but we must confess to Him and turn away from them. We can not continue in sin and ask His grace to continue to abound. So the lesson we are learning here is stated in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that says “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Therefore let the true Christians all over the world, humble themselves, that is “we shouldn’t think highly of ourselves”, but go to God in prayer, and seek His face, and turn from or wicked ways, He said He will forgive all our sins and heal our land. He is the only one that has the power to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I pray that the Lord will give us the heart to seek Him and be focused on Him all the days of our lives in Jesus Name. Amen.
