THE WRATH OF GOD

And the Lord said to Moses, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.  They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ ”  And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people!  Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.” (Exodus 32:7-10).

While the Lord was busy with Moses, He could see everything the children of Israel were doing. Hebrew 4:13 says, And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”  The children of Israel did not know that God was watching them and they were lost in their world doing what they enjoyed doing. The Lord called them stiff-necked people. People who are strong-willed are always fixed on their path, and if care is not taken that path can lead to destruction. The Lord knows them and have  revealed Himself to them that He is the God of their ancestors and the covenant He made with Abraham is what He is carrying out  Because they could not wait for Moses, they embarked upon the path of disobedience and what they were not supposed to do was what they started to do. Of course God was very unhappy with them and wanted to consume them in His anger but for Moses’s intervention.

We may ask ourselves at this point about what we are doing that can make God to be unhappy with us? We need to search ourselves for different things that we set our heart to do that we know are not godly and yet we explained it off. We cannot continue in sin and ask the grace of God to abound, the Bible says “God forbids”  It is better to stay away from sin than to enjoy the sin for a moment and try to justify your actions. There is always consequences for any wrong action taken and as we will see later the children of Israel paid heavily for the calf they made. We should be careful in our day to day activities not to transgress the commandments of God. Let us ask for His empowerment in living a righteous life. Let us make every effort to deny all the pleasures that the flesh desires so that we don’t enjoy momentarily and regret later. The Lord will keep us focused on Him to the end in Jesus Name, Amen..
