THE SABBATH LAW
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ” And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.(Exodus 31:12-18).
The Lord wrapped up His instructions to the children of Israel by repeating the Sabbath Law as a perpetual law to all their generations. This is the most important law in which the Lord asked them to make it a day of rest from all their works. You then wonder why is this day so special that it is worth repeating again. I believe the Lord knows that we are easily so forgetful of all that the Lord has done for us, so He is reiterating it that once a week of totally consecrating ourselves to serving Him will prevent us from straying away from His presence, Our hearts must be centered on Him otherwise we can start creating other gods in our hearts. When we focus on something else instead of God, we are opening door for Satan to come in to our lives and that is very dangerous, because it was what led to the fall of man in the garden of Eden. We must remember to set the Sabbath day Holy for Him, the day that we can fellowship with Him and listen to His wisdom and directions again. I have learnt a lot from reading the scriptures about the history of people of God and the wisdom I have gained has helped me to choose the path I am now treading which is the path of living right and avoiding sin as much as possible. I was able to gain much because of being able to stay in His presence by reading His word and praying for His empowerment to stay focused on Him. In essence, the only way to remain in the Lord or to remember Him is to spend time with Him. This sort of association helps to foster a good and long lasting relationship with the Lord.
My prayer is that as it is written in Matthew 6:33 in which we are advised to seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, that our hearts will yearn to know God more intimately on a daily basis so that we can enjoy all that He has for us. Let us seek Him, because those who seek Him shall find Him. I want to get to the point where He will be speaking to me audibly like He did to His apostles when He was with them physically and also after He left them. He promised to be with them until the end of the age. Those men and women of God that are able to stand in His presence can testify to the fact that God speaks to His people, to those who learn to wait on the Lord. I too am learning to “BE STILL” to hear from Him. The Lord will give us the grace to walk in the path of righteousness until the end of our lives in Jesus Name, Amen. God bless you all.
