ISRAEL AFFIRMS THE COVENANT

Now He said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar.  And Moses alone shall come near the Lord, but they shall not come near; nor shall the people go up with him.” So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words which the Lord has said we will do.”  And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel.  Then he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord.  And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar.  Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.”  And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.”(Exodus 24:1-8).

When I read the word of God and come to the sprinkling of the blood on people and the offering of burnt offerings and the peace offerings, I always understand why anyone that do not accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior cannot be forgiven or saved. The covenant that was made on this mountain required shedding of blood and sprinkling the blood on them for atonement. Now that we do not do this anymore and one single sacrifice by our Lord Jesus Christ once and for all had taken care of all our sins, what would take the place of this sacrifice for those that reject Christ? What good thing can they do that will suffice. As the song says, “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus. For my pardon this I see–Nothing but the blood of Jesus! For my cleansing this my plea–Nothing but the blood of Jesus!”

Therefore if this is God’s way of forgiving His people and bringing them to Himself, Who can query His plan of Salvation through the shedding of  blood? We read about it as Moses performed it according to the command of God and after this, the people solemnly declared that they will be OBEDIENT to God. They repeated it twice, All that the Lord has said we will do”. The Lord made Moses to put into writing all that we are reading today. We are so blessed to have the Book called the Bible. One preacher called this book, “The Basic Instruction Before Leaving the Earth” . We have it to learn from and know first hand those that ate and drank with God of the Universe. Truly, the God of the Universe is a relational God. He wants to be seen and known. He called Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu (his sons) and the seventy elders to worship from afar but Moses alone should come up the mountain. The people of course stood afar to watch the Fire on the mountain. With fear and trembling they are ready to serve the Lord.  The significance of our Lord Jesus is recorded in Hebrew 12 which says”  For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest,  and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore.  (For they could not endure what was commanded: “And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.”  And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”)  But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,  to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,  to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.(Hebrew 12:18-24).

The Power, the Glory and the Majesty of God are displayed in Jesus that came physically to the earth to show us the Father. We should recognize the need for what He did otherwise the world would have been another Hell. But because Jesus came, we have the confidence that whatever problem we have if we call upon His Name, He will answer us. He is the Mediator of the New covenant and His blood sets us free from all forms of bondage. Thank you Jesus for saving us. I pray today that those that have not given their lives to Christ would do so,  so that they can be set free too and also inherit the kingdom of God. God be with you all. Amen.
