I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.  And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.  I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.  Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.  And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.  You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.  They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”(Exodus 23:27-33).

If you have the God of Israel as your God, the promise given to them is also your promise today. God has power over all that He created. He told the children of Israel that He will send His fear before them so that anyone that sees them shall be afraid of them and will not want to touch or harm them. That was exactly what happened to them because none of their enemies was able to confront them, until they strayed away from God. If you are in the will of God, that is if you are doing His commandments, you have nothing to fear, because God will fight your battle and you will hold your peace. God uses different things as His weapon to fight the battle. In this chapter He says He will send hornets before them that will drive out the original occupants (the Hivites, Hittites, Canaanites). Hornets are stinging wasps that are highly poisonous and they will drive these people out little by little so that the land they want to occupy will not be overwhelming to them because of their number. God has plan for every thing He has created. He does not want them to be inflicted by beasts that might occupy the empty land. That is why God says His ways are different from our ways because He is the beginning and the end and knows the end of a thing from its beginning.

Therefore whenever we are waiting on the Lord for something that is of great importance to us, and we do not get it immediately, there is a reason for it. Some blessing if given immediately might cause danger to us. The enemies might use that opportunity to attack us. Some blessings are not revealed until the appointed time of God when God knows it is safe to do so. If you will recollect when Jesus was born, and the angel appeared to the shepherds and the shepherds went in search of the Messiah, Herod got to know about it. Though he promised to come and worship Him if the shepherds could return to give him details of their findings, but God knows Herod was an enemy and when they did not come back to tell him, he ordered babies two years and below to be killed assuming that baby Jesus would be among them. The enemies could be likened to the beasts who would want to deprive the children of God from enjoying God and fulfilling their destinies. Thus we need to trust God with all our hearts, mind and soul and know that His plan is better than our plan. We do not have the blueprint of our lives, but He does. He knows why He created us and what he wants to achieve through us. Our life is like a book that is opened page by page. Whatever facet of life we are in, and the challenges we are facing, let us just look unto God  for He will see us through. We are His, the sheep of His pasture.

The children of Israel were further told not to make any covenant with the inhabitants of the land nor with their gods. The reason for this warning is that they will lure them into sin. God does not want the children of Israel or any of us to worship any god or image, because it really does not make sense to do this. How can we leave the Creator and be bowing down to the created thing. The children of Israel did this as we are going to see later by making a calf with gold and started to bow down to it. They even danced around it and proclaimed the calf as the one that brought them out of Egypt. Their pronouncement was unbelievable but it happened. God who knew they were going to do this, warned them ahead of time not to even think about it. The consequences of what they did was disastrous. Therefore we too must desist from idolizing any man, woman, money, fame or self. Nothing should stand in place of our God. As we continue to dwell in the word of God , the Lord will continue to strengthen us in the way of the Lord. We will not stumble or fall in Jesus Name, Amen. Remain blessed.
