SABBATH REVISITED

“Six years you shall sow your land and gather in its produce,  but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave, the beasts of the field may eat. In like manner you shall do with your vineyard and your olive grove.  Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed. “And in all that I have said to you, be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other gods, nor let it be heard from your mouth.(Exodus 23:10-13)

God had already set aside the seventh day of rest for all the children of Israel to make it work free day, a day to serve the Lord and do good as He directs them. He also extends the sabbath to the land on which they cultivate. They should plant and harvest for six years and the seventh year, they should allow it to rest and lie fallow. The reason for this is to allow the poor among them to eat whatever grows on its own and also the beasts of the field will also eat what the poor leave behind.  Apart from the fact that the land is resting, God’s blessing upon the land still continues in order to take care of these group of people. God also extends rest to the animals they use to plough the land, and their servants also to rest on the seventh day so that they too can be refreshed. God is reemphasizing the importance of rest in every area of their lives and ours. Some of us do take Rest lightly, and do not fully understand the reason why God commanded it.  God that created us knows that our bodies cannot function continuously without intermittent rest. Resting involves all part of our system to allow it to go to a state of being still mentally, emotionally and physically. It is a day that you spend on communication with God by reading His Word and meditating on it. As a matter of fact, the reading of the Word of God is a therapy on its own, because your mind is now centered on the Creator rather than all your worries. In the process you will be refreshed and you will also get more insight into the way of God. Many people who do research have been able to get breakthroughs by being “STILL” while they are processing on what to do or how to understand the outcome of their findings.

The Lord demands it therefore we must understand that it is good for us. We must also mentally put in our schedule that once a week, we will do nothing but Rest. We should also fill that day with doing things that will please God. If we are not able to read our Bible substantially during the week, we should then spend that day to update our readings. The Word of God is powerful and it purifies, and He says we must not only be hearer of the Word but also  the doer of the Word. We must read the Word until the Word becomes part of our thoughts everyday. God is God of all generations and He has allowed His timeless Word to be written down for everyone to gather information and knowledge as to how the Creator of the world wants things done. People might not understand, but they should, for all the advancement we have today are from God and it is written in His word  that later “knowledge shall increase”. Few days ago, my granddaughter was asking me what life was like when I was growing up, so when I told her, there was no electricity, no television (TV), no running tap water, no phone, no toys, she said “WOW!, truly, all the things we now enjoy today were given to us as a gift from God. Some people were used by God by being still to hear from Him, as they listen,  wisdom is given to them and when they applied it, new things develop. Here we are today with all the luxuries of life and we now forget the Creator that brought them into manifestation. Seeing all the development as from God will help us to love God more and obey His commandments. Unfortunately many of us don’t see it. Don’t we see now that our hearts really need to be transformed  for us to enjoy what He has given us? Because our hearts are not transformed, though we increase in knowledge, we also increase in wickedness, because since we don’t have time for God, Satan use many people as a tool to destroy mankind. What we have created is what Satan is using to kill us. Look at the havoc “GUN” had done in the world and it is still doing. Imagine all the weapons of war that have been created. Whereas the Bible tells us only one Angel destroyed 185, 000 foot soldiers that rose up against the children of Israel. We are also told that Rumors of war scattered the enemies of children of Israel that held them hostage for years.

Therefore brothers and sisters, we need to focus on increasing our knowledge of God. I pray that the thirst for God will increase in us and as we thirst for knowing Him, He will pour Himself into us.. Paul says “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto His death.”.(Philippians 3:10).  May the Lord increase this grace upon us in Jesus Name, Amen. God bless you all.
