ISRAEL AT MOUNT SINAI

In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai.  For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.  And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.  And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”(Exodus 19:1-6)

The children of Israel had now arrived at the mountain of God where Moses had his first encounter while he was with his father-in-law at Midian. God told him that on their way to the promised land they would stop to worship him at this mountain. So they had now come to the Wilderness of Sinai and camped by the mountain. God told Moses to tell the children of Israel that they were rescued from the paws of the Egyptians and had brought them to Himself on eagles’ wings. The love He had for them was displayed in his dealings with their enemies. Here He confirmed to them that the whole world is His, but they are special to Him. Why are they special? Because they are children of promise, they are descendants of Abraham. It was a promise to Abraham when God called him that He would make his descendants like the sand on the seashore. God had multiplied them and He had to tell them once again that all He did to Pharaoh and his people was because of the promise to Abraham. Genesis 12:3 reads “I will bless those who bless you,  And I will curse him who curses you ” So God was keeping His promises to Abraham and these children should realize how special they are to Him above all others. In response to His love for them, they must obey His voice and keep His commandments. If they do these they will be considered a ,holy nation and a kingdom of priests.

We are also a special treasure to God. 1 Peter 2 says “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,  as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,  if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,  you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion  “A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,  And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”  Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, The stone which the builders rejected ,Has become the chief cornerstone,” and  A stone of stumbling. And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. (1-10).

The quotation from 1 Peter 2 confirms that we that have given our lives to Christ are the special treasure that this scripture is referring to, because he says, “we that were once not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” So it was the mercy of God that brought us out of our darkness into His marvelous light. Now that we have been pardoned through the mercy of God, we should obey His voice and keep His commandments. so that we can continue to enjoy the mercy of God. When we are in the will of God it is very easy for Him to fight our battle for us. Those who are disobedient to His word will suffer shame whereas those who believe and obey will not be put to shame. Making us His holy nation and a royal priesthood should encourage us more to keep this position by walking according to His laws because we know the favor of God that is associated with it.  I pray for more of His wisdom to be released upon us on a daily basis in Jesus Name, Amen. Remain in His Love.
