THE LORD IS MY BANNER
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” And Moses built an altar and called its name, [f]The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.” (Exodus 17:14-16).
After the defeat of the Amalekites, the Lord told Moses to write the promise of God to totally blot out the remembrance of the Amalek from under heaven in a book and read it in the hearing of Joshua. Joshua needed to have this promise at the back of his mind that if they wage war against them again, they will be defeated. Joshua should not even fear concerning this because the Lord sworn to fight with them from generation to generation until they become extinct. Joshua will be the one to lead them to the promised land after the death of Moses. He needed this assurance that God is the one fighting their battle not Moses. In response to this promise, Moses built an altar for the Lord, and called its name “The Lord is my banner.” This is a public display of who God is and what He has done for them. “He is saying to whosoever cares to know, The God that owns the whole world, is our God, and He is the One we are lifting up for the world to see and know. He is our Banner. He is the God of our fathers. He promised to make the descendants of Abraham like the sand of the sea, and it has come to pass. Now He is leading us to the land of promise and ready to remove whoever is acting as obstacles on our path. The Lord is our Mighty Warrior. So be ware.” I am writing this in present continuous tense because I see the God of the universe that Abraham and his descendants are lifting up for the world to recognize, as my God too because He is the same God. He never changes. As He had demonstrated in the lives of the children of Israel, He is still doing the same today. He had fought many of my battles for me even when I did not even know. The ones I cried to Him for help, He came like a mighty rushing wind and scattered all my enemies. Praise God!
Brothers and sisters, you need to make this God your Banner, the only One you should be lifting up for people to see. He is the only One who can rewrite your story. He is the only One who has the power to set you free from any form of shackles you are in. He is the only One who can remold you after His likeness, the original state you are supposed to be. The Lord is our banner and His banner over us is LOVE. He loves us so much that He gave up all His glory and came down to live among us for 33 years. He demonstrated His LOVE among us by extending Salvation by Grace to all mankind. It is not only the children of Abraham by default, but ALL that can receive this Grace will enjoy here in this world and in the world to come. Jesus came to set the captives free. Are you in any form of bondage? When you have given your life to Him and you are still experiencing a cog in the wheel, you need to approach Jesus, and make your requests known to Him. He is always available. There is no long time problem that He cannot solve. If you have not given your life to Christ, though you have heard about Him, it is time you drew nearer to Him and accept the Hand of Fellowship He is extending to you Now. The Bible says :”Taste and See” that the Lord is good. Once you depend on Him, He will make your path straight, and you will be empowered to walk with Him without looking back. I pray for whoever is reading this text to be touched by the mercy and grace of God and for open doors for you and your family and for mending any brokenness in your life in Jesus Name, Amen. God be with you.
