THE FIRST PLAGUE -WATER TURNS TO BLOOD
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.’ ” And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. The fish that were in the river died, the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river. So there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. Then the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments; and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said. And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. Neither was his heart moved by this. So all the Egyptians dug all around the river for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the river. And seven days passed after the Lord had struck the river.(Exodus 7:19-25).
God promised to deliver the children of Israel with a strong and outstretched hand and now He had started with turning all their waters to blood. For seven days there was no water for the Egyptians to drink, to cook or to bath with. Water is very essential to one’s sustenance and blood cannot replace water therefore they had to dig all around the river in search for water. If they succeeded to get water, God’s mercy was still being displayed for them. Notwithstanding it was hard labor to start to dig all around just to get water. God had demonstrated to them that all they have been enjoying on this earth as a nation came from Him. God is the author of life and He created everything for us to have good life. Some of us take for granted many amenities in life, but when we are deprived of any of them that is when we realize that God is the author of all these things. God knows our composition so well that He made water to be available anywhere we turn to. Studies show that 66% of our body weight is water, therefore drinking water helps to keep all the organs functioning very well. There is no other liquid that man made that can fully satisfy the body, even though each product is constituted with water. Al the various fruits that God made for us have a very high percentage of water. When you do not drink water enough the body gets dehydrated and shrinks and different diseases set in. God is good and at this point in this writeup, we should raise our thumb up to appreciate God that created us and made water available to us The entire planet is said to be 75% water which made water to be in abundance (oceans, rivers, lakes, ponds, and even the ground). Therefore we human beings should appreciate God everyday we wake up to use what He made available to us. You freshen up every morning with water. You are constantly in need of water wherever you go and whatever you do throughout the day. God is awesome. How else can God show us that “without Him” we can not survive.
We can now see the goodness of God in the life of the Israelites when He promised to deliver them with a “show of power” so that they will learn to trust Him. Throughout the seven days of this ordeal for the Egyptians looking elsewhere for water, the children of Israel had water made available to them, because their own water did not turn to blood. What a wonderful God we serve!!!. He said He will show mercy on whom He will show mercy. Unfortunately these set of people that experienced such a great love and compassion from God forgot all these miracles later on in life. So also we that are recipient of the Grace and Love of God forget so easily what God did for us. Every day of our lives should be spent in gratitude to God. Think of all that He has given to us free of charge, we do not pay for the air we breathe, we do not contribute to the sun or the moon that are ever present for our comfort, we receive rain freely from heaven to make our plants grow so that we can have food to eat. What we pay for are the conveniences that are made available to us, in form of water coming to your home without having to go to rivers to get them, and energy (power) given to us without having to fetch wood to cook. Therefore before you start complaining, think of all that you enjoy either in America or in any other country, because the whole earth belongs to God. I pray that as you meditate on the word of God, you will experience God more in a way that will make you to be thankful to Him, and in the process you will be able to share His Love with other people. Remain Blessed.
