FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH PHARAOH

Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may [a]hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’ ”  And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.”  So they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please, let us go three days’ journey into the desert and sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest He fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword.”  Then the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people from their work? Get back to your labor.”   And Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are many now, and you make them rest from their labor!”Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may [hold a feast to Me in the wilderness  So the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying,  “You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.   And you shall lay on them the quota of bricks which they made before. You shall not reduce it. For they are idle; therefore they cry out, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’   Let more work be laid on the men, that they may labor in it, and let them not regard false words.”’(Exodus 5:1-9)

This first encounter with Pharaoh was not a pleasant one because he was of the opinion that they did not have enough work to do that was why they were asking for time to go and worship God that he did not know. God already told Moses that Pharaoh would not let them go. He responded negatively to this move by increasing their burden thereby stopping the supply of raw materials to make the bricks and still demanded the same number of quota on a daily basis. Is this not wickedness of the highest degree? The beginning of the war between the children of Israel and the Egyptians was borne out of envy because they were more numerous than they, and they feared they might collude with their enemies to fight against them. So if these people were now willing to leave your country, should that not be good news to Pharaoh to release them willingly. Therefore envy had turned to bitterness and wickedness and they now derived joy in  enslaving them. Many Israelites would have died in the process through that hard labor with beating and mocking. This is what many wicked people do. They enjoy seeing people go through suffering because they do not have an ounce of mercy in them Their father, the devil is merciless and whoever he pounces on, he does not release them until they become bones or dead. That is what John 10:10 revealed to us,  ” The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” We will not be victim to the wicked people and every weapon the enemy of our soul had formed against us will not prosper in Jesus Name.” Every of their wickedness will be visited upon them and their children in Jesus name. Amen.

We thank God for who He  is. He is a merciful God who came to the world so that we may have life and have it more abundantly.  Even today, many masters or mentors do not want to set their servants free. Some that received the call of God were not released because they were still useful to their mentors, and also because of what they derive from them. God designed it that slaves were to be set free in Israel at the seventh year unless they do not want to leave their masters. Therefore God does not want any one to be enslaved, and God would surely punish Pharaoh and the entire nation because of what they subjected the children of Israel to. They will have their cup full by the fury of the Holy God as we shall see in the chapters that follow. Brothers and sisters, let us learn from the different episodes of the bible so that we can be with Christ at the end. Micah 6:8 says, “He has shown you, O man, what is good;  And what does the Lord require of you, But to do justly, To love mercy,  And to walk humbly with your God?  Let us learn to be merciful to our neighbors because our God shows us mercy every day. His mercy endures for ever. God bless you.!!!
