Moses continued his dialogue with God by telling Him that they might not believe that God appeared to him. Then God convinced him by three miraculous signs. Let’s read from the scriptures ”  So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”  He said, “A rod.”  And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand),  “that they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” Furthermore the Lord said to him, “Now put your hand in your bosom.” And he put his hand in his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, like snow. And He said, “Put your hand in your bosom again.” So he put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was restored like his other flesh. “Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign. And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you shall take water from the river and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land.” (Exodus 4:2-9).

I remember that Jesus says  “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.” John 4:48. , no wonder God had to convince Moses too, that these signs are testimony to what He alone can do. He is the Almighty God. Moses, though armed with these testimonies, was still skeptical of the assignment given to him. He further complained of his slow speech which he believed would affect the delivery of the message. So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” (Exodus 4:11-12).

Why was the three testimonies not enough to encourage him to rise to the occasion that it was time to set the people free from bondage? The reason in my own opinion is that we think about our flesh (composition) more than we think about our Maker who created us. Some people were born with different disabilities, as God had rightly pointed out in this passage–the deaf, dumb, blind, lame and others and it was not as a result of what the parents of such handicapped/disabled people had done, but it was to his own glory. Moses focused on his own weakness and told God to look for somebody else. Thank God that God does not look at our weaknesses but uses them to prove to the world that He is the One in charge and nobody can query what He does. We are clay in His Hands and He is the Porter.  I am sure you have heard of a man of God, who was born with no Limbs (Nick by name)  and how God had mightily used his disability to bring thousands of souls to Christ. Thus we have lots of signs and wonders that had occurred in our own generation that are living proofs to the POWER of God. Therefore we need to reexamine our beliefs. There is no other God beside Him. He has proven Himself in many ways to be the ONLY TRUE GOD and there is Nothing difficult for Him to do.  His power is still available to perform the same wonders in our own lives if we believe.

Back to the story of Moses, we are told that ” the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.  Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do.   So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as God.   And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” (Exodus 4:14-17).  God used Aaron his brother who speaks very well to stand as his mouth. God works in mysterious ways to solve problems. He could have healed Moses immediately of this disability, but instead, he replaced his mouth with his brother so that Aaron would be like the interpreter for him.. In addition to that, his Rod was powerfully anointed to do miracles as we shall see later.  In other words, God uses us as we are, together with what we have. We should not look at ourselves as “not up to the task”, but rather look at God who has called us. It is dangerous to want to be like another person, because you don’t know what that person has been fashioned to do, and it might be different from your own assignment.  Jesus  once told Paul, that “My Grace is sufficient for you”,  therefore look unto your Maker alone and He shall glorify Himself in your life. God is looking for willing vessels who are ready to say “Here I am Lord,  send me.” It is a privilege to be used by God.  My prayer is that whatever He has assigned us to do, He will empower us to do them all and we will fulfill our destiny in Jesus Name, Amen. God bless you.
