So Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.  Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob!” And he said, “Here I am.”   So He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.   I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand on your eyes.”  Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, their little ones, and their wives, in the carts which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.  So they took their livestock and their goods, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him. His sons and his sons’ sons, his daughters and his sons’ daughters, and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt.  “All the persons who went with Jacob to Egypt, who came from his body, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, were sixty-six persons in all.  And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who went to Egypt were seventy. Then he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to point out before him the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen. So Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; and he presented himself to him, and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. And Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, because you are still alive.” (Genesis 46: 1-7, 26-30)

God is indeed a covenant keeping God. His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were fulfilled. He told Jacob a while ago that He would not leave him until all His promises concerning him came to pass. Surely, the twelve tribes of Israel were preserved and He has now moved them from the land of Canaan to the land of Goshen, in Egypt, where they will increase and multiply under His eagles wings until His appointed time to return them to the land of Canaan. Here Joseph that had already settled in this land was now in a position to take care of them. God had to appear to Jacob to confirm to him that He was going to multiply them into a great nation there, and he should not be afraid to go to Egypt. Also the famine was still on therefore the move was appropriate. All that was going on in the life of Joseph and Jacob  were all God’s plan for the children of Israel. The land of Goshen was a special city prepared for these children of God to dwell together while growing into a nation. Nobody bothered them, and they were well cared for by God in this land, because everything they needed was supplied to them.

Hebrew 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. The same God that promised to be with Jacob is the same God we have come to know through Jesus Christ. He says “once you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” See the way he reunited father and son together, a relationship that was lost 13 years ago. Though Joseph knew his father was alive (or likely to be alive), but Jacob had no idea that Joseph was alive. He mourned the death of this son for a long time. Little did he know that God was working in his favor behind the scenes to make restoration possible. So also when our Lord Jesus was about to die, He told the apostles not to allow their heart to be troubled, but to just believe in Him. He says there are many mansions in His Father’s house and He was going to prepare a place for us. Therefore we should be looking forward to that glorious day when we would be reunited with our Lord Jesus Christ in His kingdom.

Revelations 21 and 22 described the new heaven and the new earth which we have no space for here. It is certain that one day we shall leave this mortal body and be transformed into the new body which will make it possible for us to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. So let us continue to do His will and not be found in sin. I pray that the LORD will keep us worthy to enjoy life here on earth  and be with him at the end  of our sojourn here in Jesus Name, Amen. Remain blessed!!!
