JACOB GRIEVES HIS SON JOSEPH

The brothers had done their worst but thank God for His faithfulness who preserved the life of Joseph. Reuben who wanted to rescue him from the pit was so upset when he did not find him there. Already the deed has been done so they had to plan for cover up. Whenever we commit a sin, another sin will have to be committed to cover up the first sin. This was exactly what they did.  Let us read from the scriptures, “Then Reuben returned to the pit, and indeed Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes.  And he returned to his brothers and said, “The lad is no more; and I, where shall I go?”  So they took Joseph’s tunic, killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood. Then they sent the tunic of many colors, and they brought it to their father and said, “We have found this. Do you know whether it is your son’s tunic or not?”   And he recognized it and said, “It is my son’s tunic. A wild beast has devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces.” Then Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days.   And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said, “For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning.” Thus his father wept for him.  Now the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard. (Genesis 37:29-36).

No one could comfort the father that his son was not dead but been sold. The man grieved for many years without knowing the truth. He gave up ever seeing Joseph again, It was a very devastating story of losing a son that was dearly loved. Who can pacify such a father who lost his dearest wife, Rachel,  and then her son, Joseph, whom he cherished so much?. It was only God who could comfort him. My prayer is that the LORD will protect all our children and grandchildren and all our loved ones from untimely death in Jesus Name, Amen. The irony of this episode was that God was at work in the life of Joseph without anybody knowing. He had now been sold to Potiphar who is the officer of Pharaoh.

The lesson we are learning from the stories of these patriarchs are giving us more understanding on how God works behind the scenes in order for His will to be manifested. When certain things happen , we just need to allow His perfect will to come to pass, by putting all our trust in Him.  His ways are not our ways and He is the One that knows what He is doing and how He wants to achieve His objectives. Let us end this section with the prayer of Hannah the mother of Samuel, which reads ““My heart rejoices in the LordMy horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies,  Because I rejoice in Your salvation.  No one is holy like the LordFor there is none besides You,  Nor is there any rock like our God.  “Talk no more so very proudly;  Let no arrogance come from your mouth,  For the Lord is the God of knowledge;  And by Him actions are weighed. “The bows of the mighty men are broken,  And those who stumbled are girded with strength.  Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread,   And the hungry have ceased to hunger.  Even the barren has borne seven,
And she who has many children has become feeble.
The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. The Lord makes poor and makes rich;  He brings low and lifts up.  He raises the poor from the dust,  And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes,  And make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,  And He has set the world upon them.  He will guard the feet of His saints,  But the wicked shall be silent in darkness.  For by strength no man shall prevail. The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken in pieces. From heaven He will thunder against them. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to His king,  And exalt the horn of His anointed.” (1 Samuel 2: 1-10)’.

This woman knew the LORD and had poured her heart in special admiration to the Almighty God. Let us Reverence Him and Fear Him and live in Awe of Him. He is the only TRUE God. May His Name be praised for ever and ever in our lives in Jesus Name. Amen. Remain blessed!
