THE GENERATIONS OF ESAU

Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom. Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah[ the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;   and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.   Now Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel.   And Aholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.  Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob.   For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together, and the land where they were strangers could not support them because of their livestock.   So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom.  And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.   These were the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau.   And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.(Genesis 36:1-11).

The entire chapter (36) was on generation of Esau. It was recorded so that we can appreciate the blessing that Esau also received from the LORD.  Earlier in the story we were told that Esau came to meet his brother with 400 men. Now we can see more into the blessings of Esau in this chapter. God has been faithful to him too. He had multiplied him and made him very fruitful just like his brother Jacob.  The two brothers were now in the land of Canaan and their possessions were so great that they could not stay together. The Bible says, Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother, Jacob for their possessions were too great for them to stay together.  Esau now dwelt in Mount Seir while his brother remained in Canaan. Wonderful! What an awesome God we serve.

When God blesses, he opens floodgate of his blessings on whosoever he wants to bless. We have seen it demonstrated in the lives of Abraham and his descendants. The blessings are not limited to the descendants of Abraham alone. If you will recollect in Genesis 12 , the blessings extends to the whole world, by saying, :” And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Therefore I believe we need now to find out how we can connect ourselves to the blessings of Abraham, because we are included in the blessings. The suggestion that comes to me right now is the verse in Joshua 1:8-9 that says, “ This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[ shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” That is to say that we are commanded to believe that we are part of the blessings and we should know that God is with us wherever we go. The key to receiving our blessings is in the word of God. We are supposed to dwell on the Word of God, stay on it, meditate on it, think on the words, believe on them and apply them to our lives. Daily we should ask for Him to lead us to our own treasures, our own hidden riches, and ask for the grace to do his will. God is truthful to His Words, we must first of all learn to please him, and in so doing, we will start receiving directions as to where to go and what to do. The LORD will instruct us this year, and direct us to our own land filled with milk and honey in Jesus Name, AMEN. Be abundantly blessed in Jesus Name, Amen.
