Isaac had gotten married and was comforted after the death of his mother. Now daddy Abraham also passed away at the age of 176 years and yet no grandchild from Isaac. The Bible says, ‘Isaac was 40 years old when he took Rebekah as wife , the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban, the Syrian. Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren, and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah conceived. But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire from the LORD and the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels, and the one people shall be stronger than the other people, and the elder shall serve the younger,. And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold there were twins in her womb. And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel, and his name was called Jacob, and Isaac was 60 years old when she bare them.” (Genesis 25: 19-26)

We can see the same trend in  the life of Isaac compared with the life of his father, Abraham. Isaac’s wife was again barren for about 20 years just like Sarah his mother.. We were not told what caused  the delay  but we know for certain that he was the carrier of the blessing on his father. So Isaac must have left it for God to do it at his own time, since he knew that his descendants would be like the sand on the seashore. But when it was becoming too long, he had to plead with God to remember his promises and hasten his word to perform it. May be the lesson in this case is that we must not take things for granted but put everything into prayer.  God always wants us to communicate with him. The word of God reminds us that when we pray we are reminding God that we depend on Him to do what we are asking from Him. Therefore we are told that as soon as Isaac pleaded with the LORD,God answered him  We are told that when Rebekah conceived, she had some discomfort during the pregnancy, she also had to ask the Lord, and then she was told what was going on with her. We get revelation when we know how to seek the LORD’s face in prayer. She was told that there were two nations in her womb..Right from the womb the plan of God concerning the two children was revealed. One nation will be stronger and the elder will serve the younger one. The two came out as God had said, one red and hairy in appearance while the other was smooth and grabbed the heel of his brother.

What do we know about destiny or plan of God in the life of individual? When children are given to us, we do not know what shall become of that child later on in life. We are just vessels through which God brings his people to the earth. We have no idea what their purpose is. This is the more reason why we should not abort any child for whatever reason, because God has plan for every child sent to this world. If we have difficulty during pregnancy, let us prayerfully ask God for his decision and guidance. If we commit it to prayer, God will speak because the child belongs to Him. May the LORD forgive us of so many children that have been aborted because of different reasons. Also apart from aborting, some women would have the babies and then dumped them in a trash can. May the LORD have mercy on us all. In this generation, there are so many organizations that would gladly take up this responsibility instead of killing them. Let us fear God, and not do what will make Him angry with us. Some children go through abuse because they are helpless. The Bible says their angels are before the God of heaven 24/7., beholding the face of God for them. During Jesus’s ministry, when the children were brought to him, and the disciples were trying to prevent them from coming to Jesus, Jesus said to them “Suffer not the children to come to me, for theirs is the kingdom of God.” Let us have a change of attitude this year towards children and even toward every one. Let us pray for them so that they will fulfill their destiny. What an irony! As I was finishing this write up today, someone sent me a clip from Whatapp and the title was “Prayers for our children” Therefore let us continue to pray for children and the Lord will answer our prayers in Jesus name, Amen. Stay blessed.
