A LIFE WELL SPENT.
Genesis 25:7 says “And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived , an hundred three score and fifteen years. Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people. .And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron , the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre.” The end of a giant. A man that walked with God. A man that had many trials and also many triumphs, and today we all make reference to him as a father. The Muslims (Arabs) identified him as their father. The Christians claim him as their father of faith. That was the blessing of Abraham in chapter 12 and subsequent chapters in which the whole nation was supposed to be blessed through him. The promise of God was fulfilled in his life just as Psalm 91:16 had said that “With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” Abraham was satisfied with long life, with good health, and with physical and spiritual blessings. His descendants were truly like the sand of the seashore. All that God promised him , making his name great came to pass. Everybody in the world is associated with Abraham. His name has become an icon on the surface of the earth.
Therefore brothers and sisters, you can lean on the God that called Abraham and asked him to leave his country, his kindred and his father’s family to a new land where he would be blessed. He obeyed and though it was definitely not a smooth journey, because of hitches here and there, but eventually he got the message and he became a great nation and a father of Faith. So also if we can persevere, and hold forth to the Pillar that can never fail, we too will fulfill our destiny. Faith of Abraham was very strong and did not waiver at the promise of God. Let us learn from this and believe in God of Abraham and in face of different challenges, let us ask God to strengthen our faith so that we too can receive all that God has for us. Good health is very important , so while we walk with God let us continue to seek wisdom in eating things that can improve our health, and not be careless or undisciplined in what we put into our body. For example if we say we walk with God, and we indulge ourselves in smoking and drinking alcohol, we are indirectly endangering our health. We need to live a disciplined life like Daniel who did not allow the king’s delicacies to defile him. We need also to run away from sin because disobedience can shorten life. I pray that we will live an obedient life like Abraham and enjoy all the blessings God has for us so that we can live long on this earth like Abraham and also make heaven in Jesus name, Amen. My prayer is that we will make use of the opportunity we have in this new year to correct all that were wrong with us in the past years and turn to God like a new baby to receive the sincere milk of the word which can make us grow. The Lord will perfect everything that concerns us in Jesus name, Amen. God bless you all.
