HAGAR’S SECOND ENCOUNTER WITH THE LORD
The Bible says in chapter 21 that Abraham should hearken unto the voice of his wife Sarah and send Hagar and Ishmael away from them because it is in Isaac that the descendants of Abraham shall be called. Now from verse 14 we read ” And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away, and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off as it were a bowshot; for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept. And God heard the voice of the lad, and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not, for God hath heard the voice of the lad, where he is. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand, for I will make him a great nation. And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink. And God was with the lad, and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.” (Genesis 21:14-20)
I do not know if you have ever felt rejection in your life. If you had experienced it, you would understand what was happening to Hagar and her son, Ishmael. Rejection from the family you have lived with for many years could drive one to end one’s life. Rejection is very painful and makes you feel as nobody, because it simply shows you are not loved. But even while we think nobody loves us, there is another love which could not be compared to the love of human being and that is the love of God. Though God agreed with Sarah for the separation of Hagar and Ishmael from the home, yet God had plan for him too. God loved him so much that the bible says “God heard the cry of the lad” and sent an angel to speak to his mother Hagar. Help came from above and her eyes were opened to see a well of water. God took over the care of this mother and son in the wilderness. He protected them from all harm, comforted them by letting Hagar know that He would be with her and the son and bless the boy and also make him a great nation.
The LOVE of God knows no limits. Romans 8:35, 38, 39 says “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ….For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This is the Love of God for us that makes Him to come to us in our lowest estate. We can see His display of love to Hagar and her son that were sent out into the wilderness. We could see that God would never leave us nor forsake us even if other people turned against us. Whenever we feel hopeless, depressed, or unloved, remember that God loves us and we just need to cry to Him in that state and speedily He would come to comfort us. Committing suicide is a sin against God and that ends the soul in hell fire. Therefore we need to remember that our lives are naked before Him, He sees all we are going through, and He is our present help in trouble (psalm 46:1), so call upon Him today and He will answer you just like He answered Hagar.
I pray that the LORD will meet us at the point of our needs in Jesus Name, Amen.
