GOD’S COVENANT WITH ABRAM

As we read through Genesis, and the call of Abram with blessings that involved his descendants, we were made to see the fulfillment of this blessings as chapter 13 recorded that Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. Also in chapter 14, we were told of 318 trained servants that were born in his own house. I hope you can imagine that these trained servants had parents and they were all living together under the same roof. Can you imagine the type of mansion that would accommodate all these people and the communal life they were living and Abram was able to keep them together? Though Abram missed the direction two times, I would personally commend  Abram for a good job, being able to witness all these births while Abram had no child of his own. Abram was definitely a man that feared God and full of the Love of God in his heart. He lived among them selflessly, showing good example of what a true leader should be. Both Abram and Sarai managed their barrenness very well even among the women living with them that were having children. Abram lived truly by Faith and not by Sight. We should follow Abram’s footsteps.

We are on a journey with Abram, so we now turn to Chapter 15 which reads thus “After these things, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid , Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward. But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” And behold, the  word of the LORD came to him, saying, “This one shall not  be your heir, but one who will come from your own  body shall be your heir.”Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be” And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Then He said to him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.” And he said, “Lord God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” So He said to him, Bring Me a 3-year old  heifer, a 3 year old female goat, a 3 year old ram, a turtledove ,and a young pigeon,” Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other, but he did not cut the birds in two. …..And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning touch that passed between those pieces.  On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying; “To your descendants I have given this land….” (Genesis 15:1-10, 17-18)

Here we see God answering Abram’s question with a covenant. That is to say, I am making an agreement with you which will stand for ever just like the covenant God made with Noah after the flood with a Rainbow in the sky which signify that God would not wipe out the world with flood anymore. God told Abram, what I promised you is sealed with this sacrifice and surely you can bank on it because it will never change. Up till this moment there was no child between this couple but Abram believed God. This is where you and I come in today that we know the story of the children of Israel, and that God fulfilled his covenant with them, why wont we trust in this God and His word even if we are going through some challenges. God of Abram is the God of the universe that wants us to know Him and trust Him. This is the whole essence of this journey. We have to walk by Faith. Faith is believing what we have not seen. Hebrew 11:1 says “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Having faith in God pleases God and without Faith we cannot receive anything from God. Therefore brothers and sisters, as we are walking with God this year, let us put all our trusts in God who is able to turn the worst situation around for good. Even if your situation is barrenness, He that remembered Sarah (90 years old) has not forgotten you, and this year I prophesy to your life that your time is NOW for people to rejoice with you in Jesus Name. Or it may be some other challenges which has been long standing, let us continue to hold on to Jesus and remind Him of our situations in prayer. DO NOT EVER THINK OF GIVING UP!!!. God has His TIMETABLE for what ever He wants to do but He is a covenant keeping God. He honors His word above His Name. The LORD will meet you at the point of your needs this year in Jesus name, Amen.  The Grace of our LORD be with you all.
