Genesis 12 now zeroes in on one man from the descendants of Shem whose name was Abram. God said to Abram “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing.  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curses thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1-3).

Now we see that God had a plan for the whole world.  He called Abram and asked him to leave his country, his kindred, his father’s house and move to a land that He would show him. Anyone that would work for God or be used by God must be ready for a life of separation from old life or things that we are used to. There are so many distractions around us that prevent us from hearing God. God always wants to have fellowship with us one on one and it is very difficult to get our attention when we are in our comfort zone. Abram was the chosen man to set aside for himself and there are blessings attached to every call. The bible says in Hebrew 11:6 “He who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.”  We are getting used to the nature of God as we moved from the creation, when He blessed everything he created with fruitfulness and multiplication to blessing of Noah after the flood. The same way, He blessed Abram and promised him that he would become a great nation and would have a great name, and he would be a blessing to others

So Abram left everything behind but took his nephew Lot  with him because his father had died. The Bible says Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, he was 75 years old when he departed from Haran. The blessing upon Abram was to extend to his descendants but Sarah his wife was barren. The land he was going to was not yet revealed to him. Here is a man chosen by God at such an old age, and yet his descendants would be like the stars in the sky and like the sand in the seashore. What does this call of God reveal to us believers of this age? It reveals to us that God was always looking for people that can Trust him. This was the original intention of God when He created Adam and Eve and gave them instructions and specifically told them not to touch the Tree in the midst of the garden, and the day they did they would die. If they had trusted every word that proceeded from the mouth of God, they would not have disobeyed God and obeyed the serpent, who told them they would not die but they would be like God and know good and evil. Now God is starting with Abram , the question is “Will he trust God and obey all instructions given to him? We read about his immediate departure from his family and country and then embarked upon the journey to an  unknown destination without questioning God. This was an evidence that Abram believed every promise that God made and we can call this Trust or Faith in God.. The turn of events as we will see in our future deliberation was better and more rewarding and God was happy with it.

Brothers and sisters, the fact that somebody like Abram responded positively to God’s leading, and the outcome was pleasing to God, we also should endeavor this year to develop an unwavering Trust in God. Who else can we trust? You cannot trust father, mother, brother, sister, cousins, uncles and aunties, friends, or colleagues, because of so many stories we hear today of what devil had turned many people into. But when you trust God and keep yourself secured in him by obeying his commandments, whatever plan that devil put together against you will be shattered because God will fight your battle and you will hold your peace. God is not a respecter of any person. You can not be in sin and ask God to fight for you. In fact it is your sin that opens door to Satan to afflict you, but when you recognize this and you turn to God, then He would rebuke Satan for you. Therefore let this year be better than last year because you will not miss church services or come late, or miss prayer meeting or Bible study. Let this year be one when your personal meeting with God (Quiet Time) will be your priority and when talking about your Faith (evangelism) to other people will be your desire anywhere you go. God desires that we seek Him this year, and as we make that effort to seek Him, we will find Him in Jesus Name, Amen.

LORD give us the grace to trust you in every step of the way this year. Thank you for your leading. We will not miss your voice and we will obey you as you lead in Jesus Name, Amen.
