The Bible again gave us a breakdown of the descendants of Noah from the three sons which were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They multiplied and moved from the east and found a plain in the land of Shinar and they dwelt there. (Genesis 11:2). It was here they decided to build a city and a tower whose top may reach heaven, so that they can make a name for themselves. because they did  not want to be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth (v 4).  What they began to do was totally opposite the plan of God . God wanted them to spread out and not concentrate on a small section. This was an act of rebellion against God. God came down to see the tower they started to build and God said  ” Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language, and this they begin to do, and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth and they left off to build the city. (Genesis 11:6-8).

The first lesson that we can learn from this episode was the fact that man still remained the same, the same rebellious spirit , always wanting to do what pleases them. When will man change from his evil ways.?  Unfortunately people do not learn from past mistakes. Why should man seek his own pleasure instead of God’s pleasure? The same problem that caused Adam and Eve to be sent out of the garden of Eden is what we are still witnessing in different forms. Man seems to underestimate the plan and purpose of God concerning the earth and its inhabitants. Psalm 24:1 says “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalm 100:2 says “Know ye that the LORD , he is God. It is he that hath made us and not we ourselves . We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”  Until we are conscious of the fact that God brought us to the world by Himself and for a specific purpose, we would continue to bang our heads against the wall. Many times we create our own agenda outside of God and sometimes we run ahead of Him not really knowing what plan He had for us. We need to empty ourselves of self and focus on God and His agenda. Our prayer should be “LORD give me the grace to do Your Will”  We should ask Him for direction and guidance as to what He wants us to do.

The second lesson is the fact that God also confirmed the power in unity. God says “nothing will be restrained from them which they imagined to do. John 17 recorded the prayers of our Lord Jesus Christ  that all believers should  dwell in unity. John 17:20-22 reads “Neither pray I for these (disciples) alone but for them (us) also which shall believe on me through their word. That they all may be ONE , as thou, Father art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be ONE in us, that the world may believe that thou has sent me. And the glory which thou gave me I have given them, that they may be ONE even as we are ONE. ” If all believers have recognized the power in unity, we would have been a formidable force to reckon with. We would have prevailed over all those who are militating against us, all those enemies of the gospel would have been silenced.  Christ in us who is our Hope of glory would have demonstrated His power in our midst like he did with the children of Israel while they were in Egypt. So brothers and sisters, let us  allow the Love of God to unite us together because we are all body of Christ.

In summary, my prayer for all of us this year is that we will seek God to know His plan for us. and also pursue peace and harmony among our fellow believers. The LORD will meet with us this year and reveal to us our individual assignment like He did to Paul the apostle (Acts 9), and also guide us through this year’s journey until we fulfill our destiny in Jesus Name, Amen. God bless you all.
