WHAT SIN DOES TO OUR BLESSINGS
Yesterday we discussed about the blessings of God on all that He created. We even discussed how we can enter into our own blessings because the blessings of God are upon all mankind from generations to generations. However in chapter 3 of Genesis we were told about the disobedience of man and how God pronounced curse upon humanity. The verses read thus ” Then the LORD God called on Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” “And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” “So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field. On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman. And between your seed and her Seed. He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel”. To the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception. In pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband. And he shall rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: “Cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you. And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread. Till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:9-19)
The LORD God prepared the garden of Eden with everything that would make Adam and Eve comfortable. The only tree they should not eat or touch was the tree in the middle of the garden that was called “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. When the serpent tempted Eve, it was a direct attack on the integrity of God saying, “Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God had said, You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Going back to Genesis 2, everything that God created were blessed, because “out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. (2:9). Adam was not involved in digging the ground, nor planting any seed for the trees to grow so that he could eat. The blessing of the Lord made things to grow supernaturally. for their enjoyment. In Chapter 3, when sin entered into the lives of Adam and Eve, there was a turn around from supernatural blessing to conditional blessing. Adam would now have to dig the ground, clear the thistles and thorns (weeds), then plant and wait for the trees to grow. Look at what sin does to our blessings. Sin removes comfort ,freedom, and joy from people of God and replaces it with pain and discomfort. What one should have gotten with ease becomes struggle for survival. Blessings of God are still very much around us, with prayers and mercy of God we can be led to our place of comfort. We should be determined this year to follow the advice in the book of Joel the prophet for God to restore unto us all that sin or devil has taken from us. Joel 2:12 says “Now therefore, says the LORD, Turn to Me with all your heart. With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning. So rend your heart , and not your garments, Return to the LORD your God. for He is gracious and merciful. Slow to anger, and of great kindness, And he relents from doing harm.” When we seek the face of the LORD and do the right thing, Joel 2:18 says, Then the LORD will be zealous for His land and pity His people, The LORD will answer and say to His people, Behold I will send you grain and new wine and oil. And you will be satisfied by them…..So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locusts has eating, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you, You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied. And praise the name of the LORD your God.”
This goes to show that sin is like cancer that eats blessings, so if we want to enjoy fully the blessings of the LORD, we should submit to God Resist the devil and he will flee from us. (James 4:7) No temptation will overtake us and we will be able to live a life that is pleasing unto God. I pray that our blessings that have been taken from us will be restored back to us multiple fold in Jesus name. All the blessings earmarked for us this year will not elude us in Jesus name, Amen. Stay Focused on our LORD Jesus Christ and it shall be well with you. God bless.
