Psalm 16:11 says ” You will show me the path of life, In Your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Now that the Lord Jesus is with us, the Scripture says He will show us the path of life, that is which way to go, or how to navigate the year 2019 without messing up again? Psalm 32:8 says “I will  instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with My eye.” This is what we need to focus on this new year. The presence of God to be there for us. How do we know that  the presence of God is abiding with us?  When we found ourselves living a godly live, and hating all those things that God hates, and loving people generally with the love of God. When we don’t harbor bitterness any longer and we now radiate the light of God anywhere we go. When all these start happening to us, then the joy of the Lord start filling us on a day to day basis, then we are sure that the Lord have fully taken His abode in us  This new attitude to life is the path that leads to life, the joy that is full of the Lord’s glory will be in everything we do.

Let us examine the life of Jacob in the scriptures as he ran away from the presence of his brother Esau after he received the blessing unjustly from their father Isaac. God had to appear to him on his way to assure him of his presence  with him. Genesis 28:12-15 says, “Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven, and there  the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And  behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac, the land on which you lie,  I will  give to you and  your descendants.. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth, and you  shall spread abroad to the west and  the east,  to the north, and  the south, and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done  what I have spoken to you. ”

The LORD that called Abraham is faithful and his presence went with Jacob to Laban’s house. He blessed him with wives and children and the LORD taught him how to make wealth from his labor . By the time he was returning back to his home, his plan was to reconcile with Esau because he knew he had wronged him.  He was able to reconcile with him because he had developed a repentant heart over the years while he was in Laban’s house.  When God’s presence is with you you cannot remain the same again. Jacob’s life had changed and he also had an encounter with the angel whom he wrestled with and he prevailed. The presence of God gave him a new life, and also taught him how to live a good life and the joy of the Lord was then his portion all the way.

This is what we should be aspiring for in this new year. A year that is led by the LORD, a year that is filled with the blessings of the LORD, a year in which God Himself will reveal to us what we should do, so that we could experience joy throughout the year. I pray that the presence of God will be real to us and His fear will enable us to live a righteous life throughout our lives in Jesus name, Amen.
