As we are approaching the Christmas Day coming up in 3 days time, I was tempted to again visit the birth of Jesus as recorded in Luke 2:4-7 which reads thus ” And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and lineage of David) to be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife , being great with child. And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

The episode that surrounded the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ was orchestrated by God the Father himself so as to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet that he would be born in Bethlehem. At the advanced stage of her pregnancy she should not have left Galilee, but for the scripture to be fulfilled census was organized for our Lord to be born in the city of David. Now another alarming situation was the fact that they could not find room for a pregnant woman who was advanced visibly in age and ready to deliver. The stage that a woman gets to in order to deliver is an uncomfortable stage and NO ONE could vacate their room and the management of the inn could not create a room for this couple to make the delivery comfortable. This goes to show the state of the mind of many people at this time. They had no compassion on their fellow human being and seemed to have a carefree attitude towards this couple. Their mind was preoccupied with their own comfort and could not sacrifice it for a pregnant woman.  What a shame!!!. There was no room in the inn and there was no room in their hearts either.

How about you today? Are you like those people in the inn who could not create room for the King of kings? So many of us today are busy preparing for Christmas celebration but our hearts are not right with God. We have allowed things of the world to overshadow the meaning of Christmas. Many of us have time to shop around for the best gift to give to relatives whereas the best gift is presenting ourselves to Jesus a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to him. What he wants from you and me is a heart that will be filled with Him, no bitterness against anyone, but rather unconditional love that is better that the physical gifts. I am not saying it is wrong to give gifts to loved ones, but let your love be genuine, let nothing be attached to it except love, and don’t expect anything in return. Please for you to be your father’s child indeed, don’t conform to the world’s ideals, but rather let the Christ of Christmas transform your heart and mind and soul so that the season could be worth the while.  May the JOY of Christmas be ours and may we witness many such occasions in Jesus name..Peace and Joy and blessing be yours in Jesus Name, Amen.
