LAUGHTER THAT LASTS LONG
God is the only One that can make us laugh, the laughter that lasts for ever. I pray that the LORD will make His face to shine upon you and turn your life around for good in Jesus Name. When you read or listen to some testimonies of what God is doing in the life of people, you cannot but join the believers to appreciate God for putting laughter on the lips of some people. Let us go into the scriptures and see example of such real life story.
In the bid to entertain three men (angels), Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said “Quickly make ready three measures of fine meal, knead it and make cakes” And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it. So he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate. Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” So he said, “Here, in the tent” “And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah, your wife shall have a son” (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him,) Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age, and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my Lord being old also?” And the LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, “Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?” Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” But Sarah denied it, saying “I did not laugh” for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh!” (Genesis 18:6-15)
Genesis 21:1-6 continues this story and read as follows, “And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him–whom Sarah bore to him- Isaac…Now Abraham was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.” She also said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.
Don’t you see that it is ONLY God that can do anything He planned to do in anyone’s life. It pleases God to make Sarah to conceive and bring forth a child at the age of 90 years. This woman laughed the first time she heard the visitors prophesied to her life. She laughed because she had given up on herself. In fact she gave up on herself 13 years before then when she pleaded with her husband to go into her maid “Hagar” the Egyptian to obtain children by her.(Genesis 16:1-4) The next chapter (17) when the LORD appeared to Abraham and said the following “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. And I will bless her and give you a son by her, then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations, kings of people shall be from her. Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is 100 years old? And shall Sarah who is 90 years old, bear a child? And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael (Hagar’s son) might live before you!”
Both husband and wife had given up on the promise God made. God came through with His promises though it was longer for them but it was the appointed time for God. They both now laughed holding the miracle baby in their hand at the ages they taught it was not possible. This is the laughter that is everlasting, because they both knew that everything had ceased according to the manner of reproduction. But God did it, because “there is nothing too hard for God” You might be in a situation where all hope is lost, please remember that “Nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible with God.” He will do it so that you too will open your mouth and would not know what to say. You will laugh and laugh and laugh, and people will be laughing with you before they even knew what has happened to you. Our God is humorous, and He does all these things for us to know that there is no situation beyond or above Him You might be waiting on the LORD for different things, may it be your legal status, or your marital life, or your job, or academic status, or fruit of the womb, or even your health, I write this episode today to encourage you to continue to wait on Him and never give up. His time is the best time and in His time he makes all things beautiful. The LORD will beautify your life and all of the promises he has for you will come to pass and thousands of people will hear your story and will laugh and rejoice with you, in Jesus Name, Amen. God be with you all,
