On my way to work I read this sign on the Billboard to warn all motorists of the impending danger on the way because of constructions. If we don’t stay alert and we drive as we do normally, we can run into some ditches or construction cones placed on the way. At times we see this sign when the weather is not good, may be its raining, or icy, or some conditions that could cause danger. Why do they pose these warnings for us? It is for the purpose of saving lives, or to reduce accidents. Even with these warnings some people still ignore them and many lives have been lost in the process. This brought to mind the unfortunate incident that happened in Indiana State when a driver ignored the STOP SIGN displayed by School Bus and ran over three children coming from school. Warnings are necessary to prevent the loss of lives. The administrators that put all these warnings together did so because of the love they have for people they govern.
In the same vein, the bible warns us with signs that could help us be conscious of the impending danger that can come our way (God forbid) if we don’t stay alert. The month of December is a very busy month, a month that involves a lot of preparations for two great festivities, Christmas, and New year. It is a month when people go out for shopping in order to give gifts to the loved ones. It is a month when people travel from one place to the other to celebrate these festivities. It is a month when people spend what they do not have in order to satisfy tradition. With all these at the back of our minds, one thing that is important is to ask ourselves the question “What are the warning signs that God is placing on my path during this period?” Above all the physical needs, the most important is to examine my spiritual life, What is my spiritual temperature? Am I focused on things that pertain to God? Am I concerned about souls that are perishing everyday without Christ? Am I praying for MORE of the LIGHT of God to shine on our hearts so that we can live a better life and not perish? December is a crucial month when altar of prayers should be raised across board for families, for children, for leaders (secular and religious) so that Jesus can reign supreme and lives can be transformed. The bible says that devil does not sleep, and is working round the clock to kill, steal, and destroy. In the writings of apostles and in the Gospels, the signs of the end are all around us, and Christians need to wake up from our slumber. I Peter 4:7 says, “But the end of all things is at hand, be ye therefore sober and watch unto prayer” and I Peter 5:8 says ” Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour”
Therefore brothers and sisters, while we are preparing for these unique occasions, let us also prepare our spiritual lives to be alert in the things that will promote our spiritual well being. God loves us so much and He wants us to enjoy Him to the fullest while we are here. So let us stay focused on things that matter to God. Let us devote our time to praying more than before, asking God for intervention in healing marriages (broken homes), restoring disobedient children, and turning leaders of religious organizations that have strayed away from God back to himself, and also for PEACE to reign in the world. Let us pray that more souls will be won for Christ. Let us live a holy life and be a good example to unbelievers. Let us be prepared to make our giving as unto the LORD, and not enter into unnecessary debt to please men. Let us do things moderately. and remember to bless those who are in need. Also let us be mindful of the devices of the devil. He uses different tactics to lure people into his net. We will not be his victim in Jesus Name. Therefore we should be vigilant in our dealings with ourselves not giving room for devil to come in, loving each other and praying for each other will keep us spiritually alert. The LORD will open heaven unto us and rain abundant blessings on us this month, and year 2019 will be a fruitful year for us all in Jesus name, Amen . God bless you all.
