Today we would visit Psalm 29 and discuss the blessings that are recorded there. Psalm 29:1-11 reads thus, “Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness, The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; the God of glory thundereth; the LORD is upon many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful, the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. The voice of the LORD divided the flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness, the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests; and in his temple doth everyone speak of his glory. The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King forever.. The LORD will give strength unto his people, the LORD will bless his people with peace.

This psalm written by David was expressing the magnificent power of God through his voice in all creations. His voice was involved in the six days of creation and up till this moment we are still enjoying all that he brought into existence in creation. The sun still comes out as he had commanded it while the moon and stars obeyed his bidding. Rain comes at its appointed time and seed time and harvest time are still in effect since he commanded them. His powerful voice on the waters divided the Red Sea for his people to cross over. The voice of God had kept the waters in their own boundaries which they must not pass. When the three Hebrew men were placed in the Furnace that Nebuchadnezzar prepared for those that would not bow down to the statue he made, the flames of fire did not have power over them because the Son of God entered into the fire too and turned it into Air Conditioner for them. The voice of God also manifested its power over the lions by closing their mouth when Daniel was thrown into their Den because the officials conspired against him. The voice of God is over all his creations.

The voice of the LORD makes the Hinds to calve. No help comes from any human being for all the animals to deliver their offspring. The voice of the LORD that hath commanded them from the beginning to be fruitful and multiply and bring forth their kind are still in effect. If you have the opportunity to watch any of them deliver their young ones, you will really appreciate the powerful work of God of the Universe. They bring forth in multiples, and one after another they come out as God had ordained them. The mother cleaned them up herself by licking all that came out with them, and then watch them receiving strength on their legs and off they start to walk. The same voice of God also command human beings to conceive, and carry their babies for 9 months and then deliver them at the time appointed by God. These blessings of conceiving, and delivering are from God as he had ordained from the beginning to make them multiply and replenish the earth. Psalm 127:3-5 says “Children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate”   Though God had increased the knowledge of man to be able to help some women to conceive (IN VITRO), the doctors still depend on God for the success of this process. Children will always be blessings from the LORD, and that is why those that have been blessed with such a precious gift are held responsible for their upkeep till maturity. The last verse in Psalm 29 talks about the blessings of peace that comes from the LORD. The peace from the LORD is quite different from the peace from the world. Jesus Christ is the PRINCE OF PEACE (Isaiah 9:6), and the peace that he gives passes man’s understanding, it is the peace you have (internal) even when you are passing through difficulties, or problems that are beyond your control, because you put your trust in him. Isaiah 26:3 says “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

The psalm was written by David because he had personally experienced these blessings from God and we can also relate to the powerful manifestation of the voice of God in all our lives. The blessings that we have outlined above come only from God and this is the reason why we should depend on him alone for everything we need. Since he is still on the throne, his voice is being heard all over the earth. Even devil and his agents are subject to him. There is no where that his voice cannot reach and he is the one in full control. Lamentations 3:37 says “Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?” Therefore let all of us put our absolute trust in God and be determined to do his will at all times, to fear him, and to honor him all the days of our lives. The LORD will show forth his glory in our lives as we worship him and surrender ourselves to him, and 2019 will be a wonderful and blessed year for all of us in Jesus name, AMEN.
