. THE BLESSINGS THAT COME FROM GOD ALONE

I am going to spend a couple of my exhortation for some days in recognizing the blessings that come from God alone. Since they are many, instead of writing a particular verse, I have changed it only to writing the topic of my discussion and the Lord will bless you as you study the scripture with me, and he will also give you the grace to apply the blessings to your life in Jesus Name, Amen.

Let us go into the scriptures and examine the first blessings that I want  us to look at. 2 Kings 4:1-7 reads thus, “A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors-empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”  So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her, and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”  And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.”  So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt, and you and your sons live on the rest.”

This is one of the miracles of God through prophet Elisha, Prophets were called to be a voice of God to his people and God used many of them to touch lives and also to meet them at the point of their needs. Here was a woman with a need. Unfortunately the situation was a pathetic one because the husband that incurred the debt was a servant of God and didn’t pay the debt before death took his life. The wife was able to vouch for her dead husband that he feared God and would have paid this debt if not for death that claimed his life untimely. The other part now was that the creditors were after her family not caring that the man was dead but wanted to make the sons of the dead to pay the debt by enslaving them till the equivalent of the money had been realized. You will think that the creditor would have compassion on the family especially that the man was a servant of God who feared God. Not so!. The creditors are people who use their money for profit, and would do anything to get their money back. In actual fact, the creditors are Slave Masters that do not have pity on anyone. They are only after their own interest.

Do you agree with me that, this is the situation in the world today?. Don’t we have financial system based on slavery? They set up the financial system to loan you some money and for you to start paying back with interest and when you sum up the amount of interest on loan, you would have doubled the amount of money you borrowed. You are working for them. The system lured you into the money you don’t have, to buy what you think you need, but by the time you finished payment, what you bought would have faded or not useful any longer. You buy a house with a loan, and the first few months or years, you are paying 90% of the interest and 10% of the principal. Can you see slavery just because you are not financially strong to buy with cash? The case is the same with your buying cars or any property that you need to finance. If at any time, you default, may be because you don’t have job, or because of sickness, they will evict you from the house, or take the vehicle from you. They do not care if they now sell the house at half the prize you owed just because, their interest have been collected upfront and the prize was inflated in the first place anyway. They do not care that you have been plunged into a financial crisis, as long as their own interest have been taken care of.

Brothers and sisters, many of us have fallen into this financial crisis, because we did not really understand what we were getting into when we entered into such agreements, and because the system has been set up in a way that we have no choice, but to follow along with them. Some things we have choice about, some we don’t. But whatever the situation we find ourselves, we should do exactly what this widow did and that is to cry unto God for help. The bible says this woman went to the prophet of God to ask for help. Look at the miraculous way that God used to bring solution to her problem. If she did not do this, her sons would have been enslaved for only God knows how long.  We too should believe in the God that brought this miracle into this woman’s life and allow him to solve our financial problems for us. We don’t want to be enslaved for ever. When you go to God and ask in faith, and open yourself up to the leading of the Holy Spirit for what to do, you will be surprised at the way he would come in to help you. One thing is certain, the woman was ready to pay the debt, so also we must have the mind to pay our debt, but we must first of all be sorry for entering into this debt without asking the Lord for direction, we must also ask for forgiveness of all our ways of spending, because some of us got into this state out of greediness to get some things that we really did not need..God knows our mind, and we cannot fool God because God is God of Justice. Therefore let your mind be clear, be sorry for all the mess, and let God turn your mess into message. The Lord knows your financial status, and he also knows how you got into it. He also knows the deceitfulness of the world’s system. The Lord is a Deliverer and a very present help in trouble. He will rescue you from your financial crisis as he helped the widow woman, and you will testify to his goodness and mercy in Jesus name.AMEN.  God bless you all.
