Job 5:8-12….I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause; which doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number. Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields. To set up on high those that be low, that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.  He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

2018 that is rounding up has witnessed so many unprecedented disasters ranging from one hurricane to another hurricane to fire in California that is still raging as we speak, having destroyed a whole city to ground zero. So many lives were lost in all these disasters, and millions of people lost their properties and were reduced to nothing. Along with all of these, are shootings that occurred daily killing uncountable people. There is no news the social media broadcast that are good news. We keep on hearing these disasters left and right and it is like when will this come to an end. Those that have been greatly affected are in serious mourning and some of their relatives that are critically wounded are in hospitals as we speak. Many relief organizations that run to such scenes to render help are overwhelmed with the need as the number kept rising.

This was the situation in this book of Job when everything he owned, were taken from him in one single day. Job1:13-16 reads “And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house. And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them. And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away, yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I only am escaped to tell thee. While yet speaking, there came another and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven , and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants and consumed them, and I only am left to tell thee, While he was yet speaking, another one came and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking , there came another and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house, And behold there came a great wind from the wilderness and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men and they are dead. ,” One single day that the Lord removed his protection from Job and everything he owned perished. He was reduced to nothing from a wealthy man to having nothing. I believe this true story was told so that we will  know that when things are going well with us, we are enjoying the protection of God. God knows how much destruction can come from Satan if he was given a chance. If not for the Lord’s mercy Satan would have destroyed the whole world. That is why the scripture above says, we should seek God and commit everything to God because He does great and marvelous things that are unsearchable. and He is the One that has been keeping Satan in check, not allowing him to perform his enterprise.

Though we are experiencing so much pain and discomfort with all that are happening , we need to seek God more than before, so that an hedge of God’s protection can be placed around us. Our sins can create a gap in God’s hedge of protection, and nobody can fathom the devastation that can arise through that gap. Even Job that did not sin for him to witness the terrible blow, had to acknowledge the Supremacy of God and repented in dust and ashes before he was restored and doubly blessed and then secured once again from the evil one. With the godly record of Job, if he could go through that disaster, imagine the atrocities and the magnitude of the sins that we commit daily, if God were to remove his protection, what could have happened to human race?. We would have been raced down like Sodom and Gomorrah. All the disasters we are witnessing everyday could serve as a wake-up call for us to turn back from our evil ways and seek God and his righteousness. God is still showering us with his mercy, we are blessed with rain, sunshine, food, good health, at least some people are healthy to respond to the needs of others. Not all the plans of Satan comes to pass, God is still fighting our battle for us, disallowing him to perform his enterprise. Remember that God is a merciful God as well as a Just God. So if we want to experience a complete protection from the evil one, we must also completely submit to the will of the Almighty God. James 4:7 says, Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Let us pray to God to forgive us all our sins, and then ask for power to do his will daily so that we can run from sin and live a righteous life and then enjoy the continuous protection of God in Jesus Name.Amen.

Prayer…Let us pray that the Lord would stretch his healing hand on those that are affected by the fire, or the flood, or loss of relatives that they will all be comforted and restored in Jesus Name, Amen.
