Psalm 114: 1-8..When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language. Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. The sea saw it, and fled, Jordan was driven back. Th e mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains that ye skipped like rams, and ye little hills, like lambs? tremble thou earth at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob. Which turned the rock into a standing water , the flint into a fountain of waters.
Yesterday I promised to continue with the discussion concerning the world’s history being under the control of our God and it is in the Book of Daniel through the revelation given to him. I will come back to this topic later on when the LORD gives me the grace again on this topic. But today we want to examine the above scripture as it describes the physical PRESENCE of God of Israel among His people particularly when Israel went out of Egypt. The presence of God was manifested in the occurrences that were described here. The sea parted to give way to His children to pass. That is the sea saw its Maker and bowed down in total adoration of His excellency by giving way for Him to pass. River Jordan responded to the Almighty in the same way as the Red sea did in total honor to the One that created it. He also mentioned the mountains and the hills respecting their Creator by giving way to Him because they could see their King in the midst of the children of Israel. It is absolutely certain that God that created the whole world and everything that is in it moves in ways that are beyond human comprehension. The Scripture says He made Judah (a name used for the people of Israel) His sanctuary, that is He inhabited them, and those things He created…the sea, the river Jordan, the mountains and the hills could recognize His presence in them (the house of Jacob), even though the people themselves found it difficult to believe this. When they got to the Red sea, what they saw was the sea in front of them and the chariots of Pharaoh behind them. They could not recollect the various miracles He performed among the Egyptians to demonstrate that Judah was his first born and that king Pharaoh should let them go. For Pharaoh to release them, the first born of all the Egyptians had to die, both man and animals, as an exchange, and that was how precious these people are to Him. Why could they not understand and recognize that this God was there to lead them to their promised land ? Just as Moses stretched his rod as instructed by God, the sea responded by giving way to the people of God to pass through. If the children of Israel had learned to recognize that God dwelt among them, their journey would have been much easier, what could have taken few months took 40 years of wandering for lack of faith in this God that loved them dearly.
What about the people of today, who are we to God of Israel? John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him (Jesus) to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name”. Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock, if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” This means because I have opened the door of my heart to receive him as my Lord and Savior, He has taken His abode in me, and I am now in Him. Therefore I have become His sanctuary for Him to dwell in, and He should be seen in me by everything He has created. When I am fully aware of His presence in me, I will be able to listen to my inner man to hear Him speak to me with that gentle voice. My duty now is to respond to His leading, and whatever I do He is the One doing it through me. Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God that works in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure John 14:4 says, “Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” The presence of God was manifested in Moses, all the prophets and in all the apostles and they were able to walk in the FEAR of the LORD, by obeying Him to the letter, and He worked through them mightily.
The children of Israel that witnessed all the miracles either in Egypt or in the wilderness, and did not recognize the presence of God among them by complaining at the slightest inconvenience, no water, no meat, and revolted against Moses and Aaron, their lives were wasted in the Wilderness, they did not get to the promised land. On the other hand, those who feared the God of Israel, recognized that He was with them and believed that He would see them through no matter the difficulties, their lives were spared and they got to the promised land. Therefore today I implore us to totally give ourselves to the God of Israel to inhabit us, and to be fully aware of His leading, so that we can obey Him. If seas, rivers, mountains, and hills can honor God by obeying His command, we that He created in His image and has made us His dwelling place, should honor Him by obeying all His commands. The problems facing the people of the world today is that the world is not giving Him the Leadership role that will make PEACE to dwell in the Land. If we allow Him to dwell in our hearts, in our homes, in our families,, in our churches, in our cities, in our schools, all places where we work, then the presence of God will make the devil tremble and flee. Whoever is possessed with evil spirit can not stand the fire of the living God. The Scripture says “At the mention of the Name of Jesus, every knee shall bow both in heaven and in earth. Let us continue to pray for God to take total control of our lives, our homes, our children, our schools and nations so that the works of the devil can be destroyed completely and there will be drastic reduction in the killings we hear of daily. May the LORD be with us all. Amen.
Prayer…LORD forgive us all our sins, and cause Your face to shine upon us again and guide us into recognizing who You are and Your love for humanity so that our lives can be transformed by Your power in Jesus Name, Amen.
