Matthew 26:24-25…The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born. Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?”  He said to him, “You have said it”

It is unfortunate that somebody that was chosen by Jesus who ate and drank with him can betray him to the chief priests. You wonder how somebody who had watched Jesus performed so many miracles, taught many lessons about the kingdom of God, revealed thoughts that were not spoken out in order to make the plan of God known to mankind, and yet would still behave in such a way that would make him loose the kingdom of God (heaven). The Bible tells us that he was the treasurer, which means he was the person responsible for the purse or money contributed by the apostles or money given to them  We were also told in one of the gospels that he was a thief. Did our Lord Jesus know about this of Judas Iscariot? Of course, He did. He even mentioned this in one of the gospels, that was He not the one that chose you and one of you was a devil?” He knew he was a devil but peradventure the Lord chose him for his own salvation, may be he would repent and allowed his words to transform him. Yet nothing that the Lord did affected him. He was filled with greed and lust of eyes, lust of flesh and pride of life which are of the devil. Devil pushed him until he destroyed him. Devil has no other job than to kill, and to destroy. He entered Judas and made him to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Matthew 26:14-16 says, Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him”  From this scripture there was time elapsed between the time he went to meet the chief priests and the time he gave him up to be betrayed. He did not feel guilty for making that arrangement. Did he not know that Jesus knew about his movement from the time he initiated this in his thought to the time he executed it? It did not bother him that he was delivering him to the hand of his enemies because devil had possessed him completely. His eyes were not opened until the deed had been done.He ended committing suicide after devil had finished with him.

Devil is actually on a rampage and many things we see today is as a result of people not mindful of his devices. Many times we opened doors for Satan to come into our lives when we allowed things of the world to take our focus off our Savior. Many of us do not know that we cannot be friendly with things of the world and still be able to follow Jesus. He says in the scriptures that “if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Those things we run after are the things the unbelievers run after, and it should not be so.  When the friends you move with give you ideas of how you can benefit from manipulating some things to your advantage, or cheat people so that you can make some profits, and you buy the ideas and join them to defraud people, you have opened door to devil to give you more ideas that will benefit you at the expense of the comfort of other people. When you think of yourself and all that will benefit you at all times, and you do not care how it affects other people, you cannot be a true follower of Jesus. Those who are passionate about themselves alone, will steal other people’s belongings and can kill at the least resistance because they do not have compassion for other people. Those people that feel they were offended unjustly will do anything to take revenge. They do not know how to forgive but rather be looking for avenues to get even. They can go to any length to make sure they pay them back what they deserved. These are the devises of the devil and many people after harboring all these evil in their mind, devil will push them to execute their plan. and after they have killed or committed the deed, they will now start to regret their actions.

Why do people that have dined at the Lord’s table also commit atrocities like the heathen? The ministers of God like Judas, that though they do God’s work but have a high taste for things of the world, like loving to live in a palace, love expensive cars, love women (married or unmarried) will not know when devil will introduce them to their favorites and will also help them to defend themselves when the time of exposure comes. There was an episode of a man of God that encouraged the congregation (members of the church to raise funds to buy a house for the church, and at the time the money was ripe to be used for the purpose for which it was collected, the man of God gave an excuse that the money had been used for the down-payment for his own house. He said they should remember that he was the one that God placed there to do his work, so he needs to be comfortable too. Can you see “SELF” being taking care of first. The Lord Jesus says, “deny yourself and take up your cross”. Many ministers of God do not agree with the principle of denying one’s self, but agree with the principle that says “a servant is worthy of his wages”, and because they are working at the Lord’s vineyard they are entitled to whatever that is at the Lord’s table. What they do not realize is that they are feeding their flesh, and Satan comes in to help them to become more and more comfortable, therefore indulging more in sin, and later it would lead to mismanagement of the Lord’s resources. All these behaviors and many more lead to betrayal of the trust that the people had in their leaders and it is affecting the power of God to move mightily as it should. God is not happy with many leaders for misrepresenting him in these areas and they also have betrayed the trust that the Lord had in them. Hear what the Lord said through Nathan the prophet to David when he committed adultery with Bathsheba and killed her husband in the process. 2 Samuel 12:10,14 says “thou hast despised me, and has taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife…..because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme…”.

Children of God let us watch what we do that could allow the name of the LORD God to be blasphemed. When we do not obey His commandments, or follow his examples, we are not honoring Him as our Lord. When we do not honor the position he has placed us and lead by example, we are not giving him honor that is due to Him. Remember that He is coming soon, let us be like the wise virgins that are always prepared and I pray the Lord will count us worthy to be with him in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer….Lord, help me to honor and fear you in all that I do in Jesus name.
